2014-'15 Mercedes-Benz E250 Bluetec Among Vehicles Recalled for Fire Risk

WASHINGTON Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 4,871 vehicles, including the 2014-'15 Mercedes-Benz E250 Bluetec and E250 Bluetec 4Matic, because an oil leak may increase the risk of a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Other recalled vehicles include the 2014-'15 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 4 Matic Bluetec and 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML250 4Matic Bluetec.

"In the affected vehicles, oil may leak from around the chain tensioner gasket area," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "Leaking oil may drip onto a hot engine surface, increasing the risk of a fire. Additionally, the leaking oil may be a road hazard for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash."

The affected vehicles were built from February 28, 2014 to November 10, 2014.

Mercedes-Benz did not respond immediately to a query from Edmunds asking if there are any fires, injuries, crashes or fatalities linked to the recall.

Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the chain tensioner gasket. The recall is expected to begin on December 26. Owners can contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.

Edmunds says: If you own one of these vehicles, plan on scheduling a service appointment with your dealer after Christmas.
