DETROIT — General Motors is recalling 48,059 2013 Cadillac ATS sedans and 2013 Buick Encore crossovers in the U.S. to replace faulty outboard lap belt pretensioners, the automaker said. A stop-sale order is in effect for unsold models at dealerships until the vehicles can be fixed.

The front outboard lap belt pretensioner cables will retract upon deployment to tighten the seatbelts, but may not lock.

"As a result, there may be a potential of increased occupant movement in certain accidents," GM said in a statement.

GM said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries as a result of the problem.

This is one of five U.S. recalls announced by GM on Friday. The biggest recall in this latest group is for the 2002-'04 Saturn Vue for an ignition key cylinder problem.

These latest recalls raise the 2014 total to a record 65 campaigns for the Detroit automaker.

Buick and Cadillac dealers will replace both front outboard lap pretensioners in the affected ATS and Encore vehicles. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006 or Buick at 1-800-521-7300.

No information about the ATS and Encore recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.

Edmunds says: Owners will have to wait for their official recall notice before taking their vehicles in for service. But if you have an immediate concern, contact your dealer.
