2012 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid Recalled for Fire Risk

HERNDON, Virginia Volkswagen of America is recalling approximately 201 2012 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid SUVs because a fuel leak may result in a fire, the automaker said on Monday.

"Due to a combination of production tolerance issues and vehicle vibration during dynamic driving, it is possible that, in rare cases, a fuel leak may occur in the vehicle's fuel injection system," Volkswagen said in a statement. "Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a fire."

No accidents, fires or injuries have been linked to the recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall is expected to begin on March 10.

Volkswagen dealers will inspect and replace the fuel rails and the fuel injector seals. Owners can contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.

Edmunds says: Volkswagen will notify all owners of affected vehicles and will instruct them to arrange for an appointment with their dealer. But if you have an immediate concern, it's best to contact your dealer now.
