WASHINGTON — Hyundai Motor America is recalling 18,700 2012 Hyundai Genesis vehicles and 2011-'13 Hyundai Equus sedans to fix a windshield wiper defect, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The windshield wiper motor cover seal on the affected vehicles may degrade, allowing corrosion on the wiper motor's circuit board," NHTSA said in its recall summary. "The corrosion can cause intermittent or total loss of wiper function.
"Inoperative wipers during inclement weather can decrease driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash."
There are no reports of accidents or injuries, Hyundai said in a filing with federal safety regulators.
The affected Genesis vehicles were built from August 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012. The affected Equus vehicles were built from July 10, 2011 to June 12, 2012.
Edmunds says: Dealers are waiting for parts in this recall. Owners should wait for their official recall notice and then schedule a service appointment.
