2012-'13 Audi A6, A7 Recalled for Airbag Problem

WASHINGTONVolkswagen Group of America is recalling 21,074 2012-'13 Audi A6 and A7 vehicles with heated and cooled seats to fix a potential airbag problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"The Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS), used to enable the front-passenger airbags, may malfunction and prevent the passenger-side airbags from deploying in a crash," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "An airbag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of occupant injury in a crash."

An Audi spokesman did not respond immediately to a query from Edmunds asking if there are any injuries, crashes or fatalities linked to the recall.

The affected A6 sedans were built from March 28, 2011 to March 25, 2013. The affected A7 sedans were built from January 25, 2011 to March 19, 2013.

Audi dealers will install a PODS system repair kit. The recall is expected to begin in February. Owners can contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

Edmunds says: The repair for this recall is not yet available. Owners with immediate concerns should contact their dealer now for assistance.
