2011 Kia Forte Recalled for Potential Transmission Fluid Leak

WASHINGTON Kia Motors America is recalling 10,240 2011 Kia Forte vehicles for a potential transmission fluid leak, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"The affected vehicles have a transmission fluid cooler hose that may have been improperly manufactured, resulting in a transmission fluid leak," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "If enough transmission fluid leaks out, the transmission may not function properly and the vehicle may stop moving, increasing the risk of a crash."

There are 107 warranty claims related to the recall, but no accidents or injuries, Kia Motors America told federal safety regulators.

The affected Fortes were built from August 27, 2010 to November 11, 2010.

Kia dealers will replace the transmission cooler hose. The recall is expected to begin on March 30. Owners can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.

Edmunds says: Kia dealers are waiting for parts. If you own one of these Fortes, make a service appointment once you receive your official recall notice.
