DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is recalling 212,911 2011-'13 Ford Explorer SUVs and Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles in North America to fix a potential problem with interior door handles, the automaker said on Wednesday.
A spring that controls the interior door handles "may become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury," Ford said in a statement.
The company is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the recall.
Ford dealers will inspect all four interior door handle assemblies and repair or replace the handles as necessary. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673.
No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.
Edmunds says: Owners of these vehicles can wait for their official recall notice or get in touch with their dealer now for next steps.
