The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing serves as a worthy performance halo for the CT4 model lineup. It comes with an impressive array of standard features that elevate the car's performance capabilities, including an adaptive suspension and a wonderfully responsive engine. Aside from a cramped back seat and only so-so driver safety aids, the CT4-V Blackwing delivers in all the right places.

Overview
When it comes to high-performance luxury sedans, most people likely imagine pricey vehicles from Europe. But what if you desire something a bit different with a distinctly American flair? That leaves you one choice: Cadillac.

The CT4 is the brand's entry-level sedan, but we're talking about the 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, the performance pinnacle of that lineup. With 472 horsepower coming from its turbocharged V6 engine and a sport-tuned suspension for sharp handling, it's a thriller of a car. As an added incentive, it costs several thousand less than the Audi RS 3, BMW M3 and upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S.
Unfortunately, there are few areas where the Blackwing falls short. Check out our test team's Expert Rating below for our complete report.

Performance
8.5/10
How does the CT4-V Blackwing drive? It's a joy to drive the CT4-V Blackwing. The car is quick, aggressive and engaging, and it's a whole lot of fun on the road. Our manual-equipped test car hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds in our testing. That's unremarkable for a modern performance car — the automatic transmission would undoubtedly make it quicker — but the sensation that stays with you is the consistent surge ahead with each toss of the gear shifter. You'll miss driving when you park it for the night.
It feels buttoned-up in other aspects too. The brakes are strong, with a smooth and stable feeling that didn't fade over several laps around our test track. The steering is quick and responsive, with easy operation when you're cruising around town. Best of all is the handling capability. The Blackwing posted an impressive 1.09 g on our skidpad and handled our test track and back roads with a natural balance, tons of grip and drama-free stability control. A truly enjoyable drive.

Comfort
8.5/10
How comfortable is the CT4-V Blackwing? It's leaps and bounds better than standard CT4 models, which suffer greatly when it comes to comfort. Instead, the CT4-V Blackwing has additional soft surfaces, excellent seats and dual-pane windows to keep outside noise outside. Most crucially of all, Cadillac includes the superb MagneRide suspension as standard. It does a fantastic job of absorbing impacts on the highway and hunkering down during aggressive canyon carving.
Our test vehicle came with the Climate package, which earns a hearty recommendation. It includes front seats with both ventilation and a massaging function, elevating the CT4-V Blackwing's luxury experience to another level.

Interior
7.0/10
How’s the interior? The layout of the CT4-V interior is quite unremarkable. It has sufficient interior space and outward visibility that's effective but slightly compromised by bulky rear roof pillars and a low roofline. The driving position is excellent, though Cadillac instituted a sloping footwell that is a bit strange — you might feel your feet slip on the carpeted mats from time to time because of the angle. Try it before you buy.
Choosing the manual transmission removes the rotating dial controller for the screen, which felt counterintuitive anyway. Reaching to press the touchscreen doesn't take much effort, but the tiny, inconvenient dials just below the screen can be challenging to use.

Technology
8.0/10
How’s the tech? Cadillac includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto smartphone connectivity as standard. They're presented well on the 8-inch center touchscreen — the interface is clear and doesn't overwhelm the screen with excessive info. The native navigation system, also standard, is similarly straightforward and enhanced by an optional head-up display with integrated turn-by-turn guidance. However, the voice control system often confuses simple addresses or requests, and that gets frustrating fast.
As for driving aids, forward collision warning sends a helpful light and a buzz to your seat bottom to grab your attention. Unfortunately the blind-spot warning system only worked some of the time and often failed to activate when there were clearly cars in the neighboring lanes.

Storage
7.0/10
How’s the storage? The CT4-V Blackwing offers less overall cargo space than rival sedans. Don't expect a ton of room to stash small items inside the cabin, and while the trunk is well shaped and wide enough to fit loads of groceries or travel bags, it only offers 10.7 cubic feet of maximum capacity, which is low for the class. Many rivals include levers in the trunk to fold down the second row of seats, but Cadillac does not.
You can install two child's seats into the back row thanks to covered anchors in the seat cushions, and there are three overhead latches so you can choose between two seats side by side or one in the middle. Keep in mind that rear seat space is limited, so bulky rear-facing infant seats may be a challenge.

Fuel Economy
7.5/10
How economical is the CT4-V Blackwing? On our 115-mile standardized test route of mixed city and highway driving, the CT4-V Blackwing returned 20.4 mpg. Not bad at all for a high-performance luxury sedan. Over 300 or so more miles, the average was closer to 17 or 18 mpg, so be aware that your driving style and highway-versus-city miles make a big difference. But considering the power on tap compared to what you can expect from rivals, these are completely acceptable numbers.
Value
8.0/10
Is the CT4-V Blackwing a good value? For the class, the CT4-V Blackwing packs a lot of value. It has an attractive starting price, and loaded versions check in around the starting price of a base BMW M3. That's a big advantage for the Cadillac, especially with the CT4-V Blackwing showing impressive refinement and polish, both in its cabin materials and ride quality.
Unfortunately the warranty coverage does little to stand out, as Cadillac offers four years/50,000 miles of powertrain and six years/70,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage. These numbers are merely adequate for the class, and many rivals offer much more enticing terms.

Wildcard
9.0/10
This is no false performance badge — the CT4-V Blackwing sets itself distinctively apart from more pedestrian CT4 models, as well as from other compact sport sedans. It nails the basics such as competent horsepower and an engaging manual transmission, but it also adds desirable features including automatic rev matching, which makes nearly every turn behind the wheel a fun experience. There are also subtle but impactful V-Series badges, unique digital animations, and even an optional performance data recorder that separate the Blackwing from anything else out there.
Which CT4 does Edmunds recommend?
Since the CT4-V Blackwing is only offered in one trim level, you're left with only color, transmission and option choices. We suggest the six-speed manual transmission for the added driver engagement even though it's not eligible for some advanced safety features. We'd also consider adding the optional Climate package for its ventilated and massaging front seats.
Cadillac CT4 models
The CT4-V Blackwing is the top performance version of Cadillac's CT4 small luxury sedan. There's only one trim level but it's well stocked with features. Power comes from a turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 with 472 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque.
When the Blackwing is equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission, Cadillac says it can rip from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, which is similar to the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C 63. You can expect slower acceleration from the standard six-speed manual transmission.
The only major option is your choice between the six-speed manual and the 10-speed automatic transmission. It should be noted that some features are only available with the automatic transmission. Highlighted features include:
- LED headlights
- 18-inch wheels with summer tires
- Brembo brakes
- Adaptive suspension dampers
- Electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential
- Adjustable drive modes
- Power-adjustable front sport seats with heating
The CT4-V Blackwing also comes with:
- 8-inch central touchscreen
- Integrated navigation system
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration (with wireless connectivity)
- 14-speaker premium sound system
- Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
- Lane keeping assistance (steers the Blackwing back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
- Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
Notable options include:
- Technology package
- Air ionizer
- Head-up display
- Driver Assist package (requires automatic transmission)
- Enhanced forward collision mitigation system
- Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Blackwing and the car in front)
- Rear automatic braking (brakes if sensors detect an imminent collision with an object behind the vehicle)
- Climate package
- Front seats with ventilation and massage functions
- Heated steering wheel
- Aerodynamic carbon-fiber trim pieces
New for 2023 are three Track Edition appearance packages that commemorate Cadillac's success in IMSA SportsCar Championship racing. Each package is limited to only 99 examples and allows for special paint choices with painted brake calipers and unique interior trim.

2023 Cadillac CT4 V Blackwing 4dr Sedan (3.6L 6cyl Turbo 6M)
Ok so its important to note i traded in a 2018 XTS that i absolutely loved, I've had a corvette on order for 14 months with a TPW 2nd week Dec. I'm not getting younger, I've got issues with shrapnel from 3 battle tours.. makes it hard to get in and out of most cars, I sold my 2019 Mercedes SL450 because of this... but I had to have a mid engine American made performance car, but so I had … originally planned on getting a 5 series blackwing and flipping the corvette, then I thought I'd look at a 4 series blackwing and keep the corvette and im so glad I did, while this blackwing gets alot less MPG than my XTS... it doesn't ride as good as the XTS, but I'm betting its alot better than a corvette and its got four doors. I only have 250 miles on it so just like the corvette im NOT able to use 100% of the HP until I put 600 miles on it, I will say im glad I went with the baby blackwing and the corvette, even though that 668 HP 5 series sounds intriguing. Mm ill have the vette when I have the need, the need for speed
Truly A Peace of Art.

Cadillac CT4 vs. Audi A4
The CT4 and A4 are nearly identical in size, but the Audi will cost you about $7,000 more than the Cadillac. For the additional cost, the A4 comes standard with all-wheel drive, packs a bit more power, and offers a much nicer interior, more rear seat space and a more comfortable ride quality. We'd also consider the more powerful Audi S4 as a rival to the V-Series.
Cadillac CT4 vs. Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The small luxury sedan class is best represented by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which was redesigned last year. It delivers the kind of luxury experience that's lacking in the CT4, with a premium interior, strong performance and an excellent infotainment system. It costs a few thousand more than the Cadillac, but the advantages are well worth it.
Cadillac CT4 vs. BMW M3
The BMW M3 essentially invented the sport compact sedan class and has benefited from decades of development. Power output is nearly identical between the two, but the BMW will beat the Blackwing to 60 mph by almost a second and a half thanks to standard all-wheel drive. The M3 is more expensive, but its higher-quality interior and sharper handling should make up for it. As for the M3's front-end styling, well, that's a tougher hurdle.
