Vehicle2013 Buick Encore Leather 4dr SUV (1.4L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
ReviewPicked up this emergency upgrade from a 2006 Scion xB on 2/7/13. As I heard, xB upgrade was some of Buick's engineer's purpose for Encore design.
This review is my first impressions.
So far, I hate one and only thing: bling. All Leather Group Encores that were available right now had chrome wheels and you can't change it. This is an addition of $1,000 to the total car price that was forced down my throat by some schlub on Buick's payroll who decided that's what the first batch of Leather Group Encores should have. There are other decorative, non functional "design" elements that I am learning to tolerate.
Fake plastic hood vents are not cool, despite what the hoodlums are saying.
Best Features1. Form factor: tall and roomy. I wish they made this price range and class in box format. Unfortunately, boxes are either too economy or too large and expensive. Buick is basically the only company who dared to bring the mini-SUV form factor to the US at this time, other than Mini. Others are to follow. 2. Easier to park than anything else in this class. With 169" in length, this is the shortest new SUV on the US market (other than Countryman). 3. Availability of memory seats. This is a super-useful option for urban environment where people have one car per family and switch all the time. 4. Quiet. Buick put a lot of design effort to minimize road noise. 3000 RPM at 90 MPH is nice.
Worst Features1. Remove fake decor and bling for 2014. I had to sacrifice my deign requirements to everything else that was available in the package. Is Buick trying to compete with Germans or not after all? 2. Could use a more powerful engine. 1.4 L turbo is still too small for the weight. 3. Breaks are a bit too soft. 4. iPhone 5 needs to work over USB, not just BT.

I'll take the chrome wheels off your hands.. Also Buicks have had vents on their hoods since 1925.. It's there trademark.Report it

I am thinking about buying one. Just curious how you are finding the rear visibility. Also, have you seen any safety reports or ratings on it. I did not see that it had any stababilty features listed in it's specs.Report it
