BMW X5 The best Off Roader - on the road
By Chris Sheldrake on

2003 BMW X5 3.0i AWD 4dr SUV (3.0L 6cyl 5M)

Wanted : towing vehicle for a 2.5t boat
trailer and a comfortable 4 wheel drive
to go to the ski slopes.

Off road performance was of no interest
but handling on tarmac roads vital.

It's perfect. Grip & handling are
superb and it's very quiet and refined
at speed.

For me, no other SUV comes close. If I
needed off-road performance, a Range
Rover's best

Best Features

Superb suspension tuned for performance on-road. Fantastically smooth in line 6 cylinder engine - so typically BMW

Worst Features

Far too much brake dust which soils the superb looking alloy wheels. Xenon lights are good but there's only automatic height adjustment. A manual height adjustment should be on the dash panel so the lights could be adjusted to suit the driver.
