Used 2003 BMW 7 Series Consumer Reviews
769Li
All of the performance you could desire of a large sedan.
Dream come true
I had always thought my dream car would be a Cadillac or a Mercedes, but when this car came into my life, it was a "dream come true". It had ultimate luxury and ultimate power. I have no plans to ever replace this car only to loving care for it and maintain it until death do us part. This is my 1st and last BMW!

BMW 745i MONSTER ISSUES
THIS CAR IS VERY BAD IS A FREAKING NIGHTMARE. OTHER BMW PRODUCTS ARE GREAT,,STAY AWAY FROM THE 745i. THEY NEED TO DO A TOTAL REPLACEMENT. COMPLETE SCRAP OF THIS GARBAGE.
It could have been a great car
Great engine, great suspension, great seats, but those electronics are going to drive me up the wall. When all is working, it is a fantastic car, but when the keys decide not to open the doors, the memory not to memorize, the controls not to respond it be becomes somewhat overwhelming. The dealer has been great at trying to fix all the bugs, but still waiting to have the thing work
pauls review
I am 55 years old and have had many cars but I have never had a car as nice as this one it runs and handles beautifully I will always now be a BMW person I love this car
nice beamer
This is a luxury sedan that thinks it's a two seater italian job. Handles like a dream. The only indication you will feel that you are turning a hairpin at 60 is your hair flipping sides. Pick up like a jet liner. Super high tech in the most ergonomical fashion imaginable. The manual clutchless transmission on I had a 740 before my 'quarter-to- eight' and it doesn't even remotely compare. Did I mention I'm impressed.
my toy
This is the best car I've ever own. I can't wait for the weekend to get out on the road. It is a pleasure to drive. Iam 61 yrs. old and computers are not my specialty, but I have no problem using the IDrive. I don't know what all the fuss is about. I highly recomend this car.
This is a truly amazing car
I've heard the rumors that the technology is way too complicated but believe me it only takes a few hours to learn everything that this car has to offer and thats alot of stuff!
A net positive experience
The idrive criticisms are generally overblown. The items you use 90% of the time are simpler on the 745 than on most cars (ie big knobs, easy to see and get to). The other 10% even gets pretty easy after several months. The bugs are a pain. They are all electrical except for the sound system which is so powerful that it causes the interior to buzz at certain pitches. But the drive is sweet and is worth the hassle.
Problems, less than 30 days into car
The "rankings" they ask for do not allow for functional problems to be addressed. I have had this car for less than 30 days and I already have a message telling me that the restraint system (of all things, safety) isn't working! Air bags and seat belts... While it is a pleasure to drive this car in general and all "expected", it is only the ultimate HANDLING vehicle, not the ultimate DRIVING vehicle as it has nothing on driving a cadillac down the coast as far as comfort goes...BMW should take note of how cadillac masters luxury DRIVING especially at the price they are asking for the 745s.
NY
This car has been in service over 40 days due to various problems including misaligned dash boards, loose components and numerous computer problems (needed new radio, needed new navigation syastem, etc)
Dream Come True
My 745i is a dream come true. Wanted a 7-series since 1986. Love it. Had a problem with the autmatic trunk lock, but that was fixed. Love the iDrive and have pretty much mastered it after 2 hours of "playing." Did I mention this car is now my hobby since I am devoid of dough? It drives wonderful, handles like my MGB from college days. I always loved the new look. Everything I expected it to be and more!!
The Car Of the Future
Fantastic response.combined with the luxury comforts give the 745Li the feel of a race car yet the eye turning impression of a truly one of a kind machine. You feel proud and strong in this car. This is my 6th BMW and it is the best .It does all that the mfg claims and more ..Fantastic!!!
A head turner
A great car to drive. The handling characteristics are outstanding. It's responsive and quick for a vehicle of its size. Corners very well with no sway and feels tight. Powerful acceleration even at speed of 100+ mph. Interior is driver friendly. The most used controls are buttons or knobs and very intuitive to use. The i drive does take time to understand how to use and in some instances, like navigation is overly complicated. Get the 19" wheels. Theylook better and drive better. I enjoy every time I drive this car
745Li 2003
the car is great. Have a 96 750IL and this blows the doors off it.
Great handling car, but much too complicated to drive. I have had several near accidents trying to use the seat adjusments, nav suuystem, etc. It's going to be traded for an A 8, ASAP
Concerned over interior.
The 735I in grey insisde has problems with the plastic trim on the doors. The color peeled of for no aparent reason. I recomend any new buyer to pay for the extra special fornt seats. The standard seats are not as comfortable and the hight of the head rest cannot be regulated at will. The car drives beautiful even at very high speeds 120mph+. However, I nted it has a tendency to skid in very tight curves, the type you found in European mountains.
Watch out
BMW needs to get their act together. This is an electronic nightmare and BMW national is not accountable. Maybe the last BMW 7 series that I will own, after six. Confusing, non- intutive, technological stupidity with absurdly complicated difficulty in using the GPS (the worst). Get park distance control or you will bunk into walls when backing up. Test ride car, vision problem for short people.
7 series is great!
I just leased a 745i and the interior of this car is like nothing I have ever seen. Although the exterior takes a little getting used to, the car is an amazing ride. The fuel economy is somewhat of a problem as every time I fill the tank it costs me $50. However, overall, this car is great
worst car I have ever owned
The 745 is the biggest car buying mistake I have ever made. The car was released before the technology was perfected. After being stranded several times, I got rid of it. A 70K plus car should not be hooked up to a two truck several times. I know many others that have expereinced similar problems. Moreover, BMW and the dealership would not stand behind the automobile. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BMW. ANYONE THAT BUYS THIS CAR IS TAKING A HUGE RISK!!!!
Driving Excellence
This is our first BMW and we really love it. We previously drove a 1998 Jaguar VDP and while it was a good performer it lacked comfort and was totally useless in the snow. Before purchasing the 745Li we looked at the new Jaguar XJ and the Mercedes S500. I liked the style of the Jag and the Mercedes better than the BMW but for handling, features and comfort the BMW came out leaps and bounds ahead. So far it has been a great driving experience!
Awsome Drive
The car car is awsome to drive. My son took for a ride and his comments were that my MB E Class is like plywood on wheels as compare to this car. The only problem with this car is a few software glitches which are easily fixable but sometimes are annoying. The idrive is fun to use which easy to master in a short period of time.
2003 745I I am worried for BMW
The Engine, transmission, seats are possibly the best I have ever witnessed. However the car is pathetically confusing for valets, loved one's and owners. Nothing works correctly from memory to auto close trun that remains half up everytime. BMW service has been great, BMW company has been great. I do worry about this car causing everyone to run away!
my 745Li
The seats are a bit hard to adjust while moving. There are just to many options.
believe what people are telling you abou
I also got one of the early models. Had tremendous number of problems. The dealership could never fix them. I just traded it in on a Mercedes S class and they gave me $50K trade in due to all the problems...they know noone wants the car.
My favorite Large Luxury Vehicle Yet
My last BMW was in 1988 and I thought it was less well built than Mercedes. Since then I've had both Mercedes and Lexus as large, luxury vehicles. I almost bought another Lexus this time but I was overjoyed by the handling of this large sedan. I've come to love the styling - bold and unique, and instantly recognizable. The i drive is no problem at all - the poor motoring journalists don't get to spend enough time with it. My favorite car now - I also have a Porsche C4 cab, an Audi A8 and a Mercedes E500 from 1992.
Nice machine
A great car. I can't find superlatives to describe it.
The Best Car In The World
The Best Car In The World
So Much Fun!!
The car is unbelievably fun to drive. Handles beautifully. We have had some problems getting our phone to work. Been back to the dealer 3 times and still are having problems. The other problem is that the vehicle is so fun to drive that I do not care about the phone situation. VERY fast and handles VERY well...and oh the looks that it gets. I am afraid that we are going to cause an accident.
Best Car Ever
its the best car you can drive. its fun to dirve, fast, and looks great.
The Best Car Around
Even though as many know this car has its flaws, no other car drivges, sounds, and gives the same luxury like any other car int he world.
BMW 745
EVERY FUN TO DRIVE AWESOME CAR OVERALL
The Car From Hell
RUN away from this vehicle. Fast. I have had the misfortune of having 2 745i's, when my dealer replaced my 2002 745i with a 2003 model. The first one was in the shop 7 times in 6 mos. The second one in shop 3 times in 1 mo. It was the most absurd, frustrating & disappointing experience ever with a new car. Tomorrow is my last day of having this car. My dealer is taking it back. As much as I loved it, it was totally unreliable. Quality control stinks. Not only were there problems with the electronics, but mechanical problems as well. Towed twice to my dealer. SAVE YOURSELF AGGRAVATION. GET SOMETHING ELSE.

GOOD FOR THE $$$$
The Ultimate Batmobile
Just a really great travel car. We drive 700 miles with our 3-year old son and we are not even tired. Incredible performance, a greaty interior and so many super gadgets, I think it's my best car ever
Don't Believe All That You Read
The much maligned iDrive is a marvel. It has a learning curve of course. It combined with the active cruise control make for a pleasant and SAFE vehicle with performance and handling to set the standard for all other cars.
My best BMW yet
Even better that my 740iL and Z3. Many previous reviewers scared me, but I took the plunge and the car is great - aperfect mixture of luxury and driveability.
Electrical
Excellent driving car. Had car for 4 1/2 months and it was in the shop for over 40 days on five visits. Car was declared a lemon. Will replace or get money back.
this car is ahead of its time
This car is not for the simple minded person. this car made me injoy driving like when I was in my teens.
BMW 7 Series
The software revisions and minor glitches (like a KM spedo) were annoying but after those early problems, the car has been carefree/
Great Car!!
I have never owned a BMW and this car is wonderful. Before i was going to buy a MB S430 but the dealer wasnt giving us any rebates. Then we went to see the BMW and we bought it immediately. The car is great to drive and the I-drive is easy after a while. Anyways, you dont use it that much since the the AC and Radio buttons are on the console and thats what you use more. Never had a car with navigation beleive it or not, it and its a big jump from nothing. The car does have a weird style especially in the outside and you get use to it and love it after a while. Also its an eye-catcher.
Lemon law? A class-action suit?
I first picked up my 745i on 10-08 and it has been out of service a total of 20 days as of 11-16. The problem?...I am on my FOURTH new 745i loaner and all these cars have been plagued with intermittent electronics! Intermittent - nav system, cell phone, trunk release, headrests going up without warning, dash reverting to metric, radio/CD, engine check light, no audio from phone/sound system... A great dealership, but they have been plagued with a lot of problem cars.
BMW 2 Months Old, In Shop 4 times
Don't expect BMW service to figure out the blank screen, or zero electronic activation after you put the keyfob into starter ignition. I now have 3 new sets of keyfobs, and a new processor, yet car was dead after a 3 day airport layover. Very familiar with BMW roadside assistance, they are good! $68,789.00 Mistake.
Fun car to drive
Had little issues but not too much to be worried. Great car to own.
THIS IS THE BEST CAR EVER!
IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THE 7 SERIES!
#1 Car Ever
This is the best car car ever created. It is powerful, fun to drive, comfortable, quiet, and has and does everything you would want from a car.
truth in new technology
I think that the 745 is s beautiful car, but after 9 months and many recalls, poor reparirs, computer blow outs, and a few stranded experiences, i am not sure that it is worthy of the BMW name. Wish I got the Mercedes
4 Months and Still Happy
I've now owned my 2003 745Li for four months, and I couldn't be happier. The car performs like a dream. Ever want to go 70 miles an hour around a 45 degree curve with minimal body roll? This is the car for you (and me). The handling is superb. The shear exhilaration from 0 to whatever speed is indescribable. Who knew they could improve upon the prior model? Theyve done it. It is the best car I have ever owned.
great vehicle and fun to drive
Fisrt its eye catching, the acceleration of this vehicle is great, but you will love when you are making shrp turns, you stay in youe seat at a 60 miles sharp turn, it will give you this type of reliabilty under any conditions. The inside is owesome and is fun to drive, people are always looking at your car, it gets noticied.
They almost made it
With out a doubt BMW took a chance and put all the technology available into one car. The result is a formidable driving machine. The problem with taking these kinds of technological leaps is who is going to fix it if there is a problem. We have owned the car one month and have had the second system failure in the car. The first problem was with the dynamic drive system. The dealer was very accomodating but it took a week to diagnose the problem and get the right parts. Now we have our second repair in one month. If we have anymore difficulties with this car I will return it under the Lemon Law.
