Officially known as the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, the Shanghai auto show is China's oldest major auto exhibition. Founded in 1985, Auto Shanghai, as it's also known, was also the first Chinese auto show to join the UFI, an international trade show organization.
Held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, the Shanghai auto show alternates with the Beijing auto show as China's yearly international automotive exhibition. Due to the greatly expanding presence of foreign brands in the Chinese markets, Auto Shanghai has become one of the premier international auto shows alongside Detroit, Frankfurt, Paris and Tokyo. The 2007 Shanghai Auto Show attracted 1,300 exhibitors from 21 countries and regions and drew more than 500,000 visitors.
