NEW YORK The 2015 Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 will start at under $30,000 when it arrives at dealerships in August, Toyota announced on Wednesday at the 2014 New York Auto Show.

Toyota said the price will exclude the $755 destination charge. Specific pricing is expected later. In comparison, the base 2014 Scion FR-S starts at $25,455, including shipping.

The FR-S Release Series 1.0 will be limited to a run of 1,500.

Details include a custom-designed aero kit with a rear spoiler and side fender garnish. Other highlights include a Toyota Racing Development quad-tip exhaust system, lowering springs and smart key with push-button start.

The cabin gets black seats with a T-pattern, a TRD steering wheel and shift knob. Each car will have a sequential release series badge inlayed on its brushed aluminum shifter surround plate.

A bright yellow Yuzu exterior paint color rounds out the package.

This is the first Scion FR-S Release Series model. The series is designed to draw on Toyota's motorsports history.

"FR-S enthusiasts will appreciate the side spoilers and lowered stance that deliver a look and feel meant for the track, at a price meant for them," said Doug Murtha, Scion vice president, in a statement.

Competitors to the Scion FR-S include the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and the Subaru BRZ.

Edmunds says: This will be a must-have version of the FR-S, so it's best to check in with your dealer about how to get your hands on one.
