2006 Audi A6 4.2 quattro 4dr Sedan AWD (4.2L 8cyl 6A)

Review

The car is tight, responsive and handles well. However, the engine is a little loud. The drawback to this vehicle is the brakes which are much too touchy. Difficult to glide to a smooth stop. The controls (radio,t emp, phone, navigation) are very handy and easy to use.

Worst Features

Do something with the brakes and make it easier the front door opening higher (I'm 6'2").

2006 Audi A6 4.2 quattro 4dr Sedan AWD (4.2L 8cyl 6A)

Review

This is the greatest driving car we have ever owned. We love the look! We bought the RED S-Line V-8 and it goes and stops like hell. Although we only have 1500 miles on it we haven't had any problems. The interior and exterior are beautifully assembled and the quality of the materials is top notch. The MMI system is easy to use but sometimes distracting.

Best Features

V-8 power, beautiful looks, great seats, awesome quality and materials.

Worst Features

Soften the throttle and the brake pedal tip in just a bit, both are very touchy.

2006 Audi A6 3.2 4dr Sedan (3.1L 6cyl CVT)

Review

My wife traded her A4 on an A6. I liked driving hers so well, I traded in my IS 250 for one too!

Best Features

Fuel economy, range on a tank of gas, MMI, satellite radio (don't know just how much I would like it), CVT transmission - puts conventional automatics to shame, paddle shifters, quality of interior materials - especially the wood trim, seat comfort, Bose stereo, full sized spare on alloy wheel.

Worst Features

No iPod integration or AUX input, CD changer doesn't recognize MP3s (this is fixed on 2007s), positioning of A/C vents chills hands, 18" wheel design a little bland, warning triangle no longer standard equipment

2006 Audi A6 3.2 quattro 4dr Sedan AWD (3.1L 6cyl 6A)

Review

This car was a replacement for my wife's 97 BMW 528i. This car is surprisingly quick and the transmission is the best "auto" I have ever had. The difference from her 4-speed BMW auto is amazing. This system always seems to know the right gear, downshifting as you brake so when you step on it you are in the correct gear. Handling is not on par with BMW. We could have opted for Sport suspension to fix that but got a great deal on a 2006 on the lot.

Best Features

We had dealer install the Nav system and that is favorite so far. The ambient lighting and adaptive Xenon headlights are awesome. The engine will pull nicely around 3500 RPM and the tranny is responsive in Sport mode.

Worst Features

The handling grip is okay but the body rolls too much. The steering is a bit too light and should be firmed up more at high speeds.

Review

Bought the 2006 A6 to replace a 1997 A6. A quantum leap in technical sophistication, comfort and fit. Seating very comfortable. Highway noise almost non-existent. Great acceleration and manuverability. Only two minor manufacturing flaws, neither performance related. The MMI is easy enough to use, but it is distracting. I live with a lot of wide open spaces, but with hundreds of satellite radio stations to choose from, you get distracted. The on- wheel controls do not remedy this because of a lag in activating the tuning dial - the lag means you have to look away from the road to see where you are. The doors are very heavy, which I equate with safe. I would happily buy this car again.

Best Features

Handling and acceleration. Lack of road noise.

Worst Features

A way to make the on-wheel audio control usable without having to look away from the road. For example, if turning the dial brought up a voice telling the station "Sirius 74," etc. Of course, this could be turned off through the MMI if someone didn't want it.
