2001 Audi A4 1.8T Fwd 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

I had high expectations for my Audi A4,
and they have been dashed to pieces.
I have had the same problem many
others have had with engine coils (car
broke down completely 3 times this
year alone!) My dealership covered the
repairs, but the hassle factor was
extremely high. I also had to replace
door speakers and had a problem with
my driver's side airbag. My check
engine light is on right now and as
soon as I get it back from the
dealership I am trading this car in.
My mother also has an Audi A4 that she
has had much worse problems with
(replaced the entire engine twice
along with the transmission!)
My "Audi Experience" has not been a
good one!

Best Features

When my car is running, it is fun to drive. I have a 5 speed, and the turbo helps a lot with pick up. I love the little first aid kit, even though most of the instructions are in German!

Worst Features

Sunroof baffles, my seat squeaks every time I move and adjusting it is a nightmare, something is rattling in the dash, cupholders are in odd places, both of my nifty flip keys broke and were not covered by the warranty, console is basically useless.

2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro AWD 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

Overall, I cannot recommend this car.
There are too many good vehicles out
there to settle for this. Even though it
drove well and we felt very safe on it,
reliability has been poor, dealership
service has been so-so, and attitude at
Audi of NA has been bad. Also, the car
seemed to have no resale value. We
traded it in before warranty expired and
are now driving a Honda.
We went through the coil recall, and it
took 3 trips to the dealership (and 3
times almost stranded on the road) to
fix. Audi refused to change remaining
coils even though they knew they were
defective: they said warranty only
covers parts when they fail -they lost
me as a client right there. We also had
the clutch fail.

Best Features

Car rode and handled very well. We loved the design, inside and out (even better than new model). We thought safety was good (3 pairs of airbags, discs with ABS, good crash tests).

Worst Features

Improve reliability. Rear seat needs *much* more room (even more than added to new model). Improve dealership attitude and attitude at Audi of NA. Maybe if you do all this resale value will also go up.

2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro AWD 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

I purchased this vehicle with plans to
moderately modify it with a chip and
possibly Euro Xenon headlamps since the
specific car that I was looking at did
not come with Xenon lights. Well, who
knew that I'd have a lot more than just
those modifications? Along with the
chip(s) and lights, I have added Stasis
Tracksport coilovers, StopTech brakes,
Neuspeed rear anti-sway bar, Strat
short shifter, Bailey bypass valve, a
boost gauge in the center vent, APR
snub mount and AWE DTS to firm up the
drivetrain as well as a few other
mods. The more I add to this car, the
more I enjoy it at driver's schools via
the Audi clubs and other high
performance driving schools.

Best Features

Without a doubt, Quattro is my favorite feature of this car. Styling of the B5 platform hasn't been beat by Audi. The B6 platform cars were either on the lots or coming out soon and I didn't like the looks of them. And, the pictures of the new B7 don't make me want to sell my B5 A4.

Worst Features

Power out of the box. The more powerful S4 was available, but I couldn't justify the price difference when adding a chip to the A4 and having a slightly lighter car make the power ratio gap very small. Approved modifications that won't void the warranty. Leather sport seats.

2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro AWD 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

This has been a great car for us. It is
a lot of fun to drive and everyone at
the dealerships go above and beyond to
service their customers. We've had the
car for almost four years now and all
that we've had to do is have the oil
changed, which is included in the
warranty. Owning our first Audi has
been a great experience and I often
recommend the A4 to others.

Best Features

I love the sport suspension, the Quattro, and the Bose stereo system. Its lots of fun to be taking a sharp on-ramp curve at 50 with your Bose stereo humming in the backround

2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro AWD 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

Purchased a pre-owned 2001 A4 1.8t
Quattro.

Sales experience: Best I've ever had.
Audi of Mendham, NJ, was fantastic in
every respect and exceeded my
expectations. Also looked at Infinity
I30, Lexus ES300 and Acura TL.
Infinity was more luxury oriented but
dealership was beyond horrible (Lynnes
in Bloomfield, NJ). Lexus was too
expensive and the 2002 model made the
2001 look like crap (styling
changes). Acura was great but
exterior styling for 2001 was bland.

The Car: Have to get used to turbo
power coming on, but it does. Feels
very luxurious, yet sporty enough to
keep you "cool". Grips the road with
confidence. Small interior can be a
problem

Best Features

Handling, Dash layout, comfort, power, gas mileage, 60/40 split seat, heated seats, auto dimming mirrors, automatic climate control (my first), switchblade key design, trunk cargo net.

Worst Features

Interior too small (I'm only 5'8"), not enough storage - no sunglasses holder, room for tapes, CD's. Car at this price level should offer power seats with memory.
