Wire harness/whiney noise/rough shift

2025 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/A-Spec and Advance Packages (3.5L 6cyl 10A)

This is our 3rd Acura MDX. We have had the wire harness replaced/“repaired” 3 different times so far. Every warning light on the dash was on and many extra and/or safety features would not work while the lights were on. Since the last replacement we haven’t had any lights on the dash come on. HOWEVER. We have the annoying whiney noise around 45-50 mph, our map is super glitchy and zooms all the way out anytime navigation instructions are given- and the voice has glitched out a couple of times. Sounded like a CB radio giving instructions. We’ve had scraping noises in the wheel wells several times and were told it was pebbles or stones getting stuck (how?!), when my husband drives the car with his key (driver 2) and then I go to drive it (with my key- driver 1) it doesn’t reset to my key fob specifications. The only way I can “reset” it is to step outside the car lock it and then unlock it and start the car again. There have been several other really random, odd, and annoying small issues. This should not happen on any vehicle, but especially on a brand new vehicle! We are about ready to take it back and get a totally different brand. I’m an Acura girl. This is my forth Acura in my lifetime (first car was an Integra and then 3 MDX) and I am a loyal buyer, but I’m super disappointed and frustrated that the dealership looks at us like we’re idiots when we try to address the issues.

Great vehicle let down by abysmal build quality

Pros: The handling, styling, seats, stereo, safety scores, headlights, AWD system, engine. Value if you get lots of incentives. Four year warranty. Cons: The touchpad sucks with Apple CarPlay. With the Acura systems it is totally fine. The build quality is SO SO bad. Acura should be ashamed. I had to bring it back for misaligned trim and panels right after buying, and every time I drive it there are new squeaks, creaks, and rattles from the interior. The heat shield was loose from the factory, I found a random seat bolt rolling around, a plastic panel they cracked and glued instead of installing a new piece, the rear window washer was installed misaligned, and I’ve been back four times to try to get a speaker in the top end sound system to stop rattling the cheaply built door panels. It sounds like a 10 year old car going over bumps and the ride can be very loud and stiff/harsh on bad pavement and sharp impacts. The wireless charger is basically useless. After one year the ac started to smell even though the car is parked inside and it has a rough idle after start they are telling me is all normal. Also the ac and vented seats cool just barely adequately. Gravel pieces get in the rear brakes and make a terrible squeal - there is a tsb for this. None of these are catastrophic failures but add up to make pretty negative impression of a new car. I’ve only had it 15 months. I figured buying the third model year after the redesign would mean less quality problems but boy was I wrong. I am so frustrated in the constant rattling and creaking of the interior I do not know if I will be able to keep it. I bought it to keep a long time like my last Acura but all the quality problems make me doubt that is a good idea. Make sure you do a long test drive with the exact vehicle you may be buying on rough roads with a keen ear and check all the panels and trim to make sure they are lined up right. If you find a good one or can put up with the poor quality it’s a great car. Make sure you get a good deal though, Acura seems to need incentives to move product now since their cars are second best to most competitors and so poorly built.

Be Wary

This is my first Acura (2025 MDX) and am extremely disappointed in this vehicle. Every time I drive it there are new squeaks, creaks, and rattles from the interior. There is movement between all the trim pieces in the dash and the rearview mirror. The noise when driving is so irritating. It feels like I’m driving a Kia. Actually, my friend’s Telluride has less interior noise. I’ve taken it back twice for these issues and waiting for a call back to bring it in again. I assume this won’t qualify for the lemon law and I don’t see how the dealership will be able to address these issues. I’m afraid it’s just a poor quality build and I guess I’m just stuck with it. I don’t know how I’d ever be able to buy another Acura. I put a lot of time and research into buying this vehicle, so yeah, I’m beyond disappointed.

Driving and configuring my wife's new MDX… So far so good! Excellent finish and interior quality. The car feels solid and is very quiet inside. No rattles, no squeaks, the only abnormal sound I can hear is the jingling of the metal ring on the key fob laying in the door top pocket. Driving mode is easy to switch using large knob in the center console, no need to stop and drill into the menu options like on new Lexus RX. Sport mode eliminates any feelings of insufficient engine power (at expense of the gas mileage, that's for sure), no jerking transmission then either. With about 4000 miles on it, transmission feels silky smooth. The sound system is excellent! The infotainment system with its touchpad is fine - no finger smudges on the screen. BTW, the screen panel quality is way better than the one on new Lexus RX. High contrast, deep black, and no way to get sun glare anywhere near. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto – all work like a charm. Default Acura's navigation is actually not that far behind, giving the choice of seamlessly switching between at least 3 navigation systems at any time during the driving (Acura's, Apple/Google Maps, or Waze in my very modest setup). Engine stop/start is annoying, but there is a way to control it with the brake pedal pressure – light pressure prevents engine from shutting down. Not sure what those rich folks with $60k+ cars are complaining about gas mileage. It's not a city commuter's car. I'm seeing 26-27 mpg cruising on the highway. It doesn't require premium fuel, that's additional 20% fuel economy for you. Driver assist features are all good and very usable. I only don't get why would Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) need to be that sensitive and require periodic "proof of presence", literally makes me shake the steering wheel a bit every several minutes. I hope Acura will relax this "rule" with the future software update, …please. So far, squeaking brakes were the only complaint to the service department. They replaced rear pads and the squeaking gone.

Sunroof won’t close all the way

We recently bought the 2024 MDX base advance . The car was used but certified through Acura. We noticed less than 24 hrs after buying the car that the sunroof wasn’t sealed. Air was coming in . Then we noticed water stains on the headliner. We took it back to the dealer and they said it was fixed . On the way home we realized it wasn’t fixed. The dealer is coming Monday to pick the car up from our home. They also offered “ to cancel the deal and refund my money”. We shall see. However, it’s a sharp looking and driving suv. We test drove many other brands and this was the over best in our opinion . The car could use a little more power. In sport mode it does move . It’s a solid feeling suv. Handles better than our old 2023 xc90 . It’s smoother too. If the sunroof isn’t fixed we are giving the car back.
