SANTA MONICA, Calif. — July 16, 2010 — August is just around the corner, and that means it is nearly time for one of the most highly anticipated automotive events of the year: the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

From August 12 to 15 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will again play host to hundreds of classic machines including spindly racers from before World War I to recently retired Formula 1 and NASCAR machines. There will be 19 race groups in all, covering nearly 100 years of automotive history. The event will include a special tribute to American motorsports legend Dan Gurney and the cars he built and drove.

"The newly renamed Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion presents the world's greatest racecars in their natural environment," reported InsideLine.com contributor John Pearley Huffman. "Since the end of the 1970s it has been the world's premiere on-track event for historic racing cars, and this year, as a four-day event, it promises to be more spectacular than ever."

The InsideLine.com article highlights a dozen of the top racecars from this year's event.

"The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion has long been known for attracting historic cars with authenticated race history and we are continuing to adhere to these same high standards," said Barry Toepke, vice president of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. "Accepted cars not only must be mechanically correct as when they were originally raced, but even sponsor decals must be period-correct. This event is like a museum that bursts to life."
