2006 Volvo XC90 SUV V8 4dr SUV AWD (4.4L 8cyl 6A)

Review

Last vehicle was a 2004 Acura MDX. The XC90 has a better, with the V8, engine and transmission. Very comfortable with most of the controls in a good position. Only have 700 miles but have been averaging 19 mpg. Only driven it in the rain but the handling, while not sporty, is good. If you want a good overall SUV, this should be high on your list. Any BMW X5 will offer better handling and performance but doesn't have the cargo space.

Best Features

Exterior style, tank like safety, split tailgate, exhaust sound (V8)

Worst Features

Need an auxilary input (iPod). The 2007 models do have this feature. Better cabin illumination (switches), Reduce the size of the key or should be Intelligent Key System, Offer cooled seats in V8 model, Back-up camera instead of ultrasonic system.

2006 Volvo XC90 SUV 2.5T 4dr SUV (2.5L 5cyl Turbo 5A)

Review

I love the comfort and the road handling. The third row seating for the kids is great.

Best Features

One of the best factory option I got installed was the Bluetooth interface. I am still looking for a digital iPod interface though. The moulded floor mats are a must, especially with small kids.

Worst Features

Factory installed digital iPod interface.

2006 Volvo XC90 SUV 2.5T 4dr SUV (2.5L 5cyl Turbo 5A)

Review

Traded an S40 for the XC90. Ride is superb for an SUV. Although under powered, the 2.5 Turbo does the job well. Lots of standard features plus received free incentives. Highway ride is wonderful. Was able to transition easily from the S40 to the larger XC90. Intimidating at first, but after the first trip, it's still a Volvo!

Best Features

Never had a Moon Roof nor leather in a car. Boy, what I was missing! Air conditioning has greatly been improved in newer Volvos compared to the earlier 240s and 740s (I've owned 7 Volvos so far).

Worst Features

Has to be the engine. Not really interested in the v8 but I'm curious to see how the 6 cylinder will rate.

2006 Volvo XC90 SUV 2.5T 4dr SUV (2.5L 5cyl Turbo 5A)

Review

This is our 6th Volvo, but not necessarily our favorite. While the XC90 provides seating options that our V70 wagons and S70 and S80 sedans could not provide, the 2.5T engine is clearly underpowered for the weight of this vehicle. Gas mileage is POOR and would have been worse if we had chosen the V8. We love the safety features of this vehicle. It handles well and is roomy enough for our passengers--- mostly children.

Best Features

Integrated booster seat in second row, split fold down seats, curtains extending to third row

Worst Features

larger engine, better fuel economy, easier access to third row seating

2006 Volvo XC90 SUV V8 Volvo Ocean Race Edition 4dr SUV AWD (4.4L 8cyl 6A)

Review

solid, safe and with surprising performance. did 20.6 mpg on an interstate trip of 800 miles [doing a steady 80].

Best Features

engine is smooth, cruises at 80 mph at only 2300 revs, comfortable seats

Worst Features

lack of front storage space for sunglasses etc. No tape deck, a major problem if you have a lot of tapes that you like to play on long trips. I did solve this problem eventually-email me if you want to know how. The volvo people we No compass, and clock difficult to see-impossible for the passenegr
