    Why are you paying $4500. This is a patent DEFECT and this transmission should not need replacing anywhere near 100K or miles. This is not some CHEAP SUV...it retailed around 60K originally back in 2004-2005. This should be covered by Volvo of North America especially since it is under 1ooKmiles.     I have bad news for you. Volvo lied to you. Those XC 90's have a radiator problem that destroys the transmission. Mine was replaced a year ago at about 75,000 miles. You need to go back and challenge the lying guys at Volvo and get your money back from the dealer. Volvo knows about the problem but continues to stonewall!

    I just bought a 2006 2.5t xc90 with 70,000 and am in love! Paid only $17k from a mazda dealership and had it inspected by a volvo dealership before I bought it. Volvo dealership said the 2.5t is bulletproof if you keep up with the maintenance.

    I own a 2006 2.5T xc90 with 70,000 miles, and it has been a great car. The 2.5T and all other volvo 5 cylinder engines have a great reputation for reliability and longevity.     Volvo has agreed to replace my 2004 XC90 T6 transmission at no cost, but the dealer is charging me $600 because he says it needs a new axle. There is nothing wrong with the current axle but I was told the replacment transmission is larger. Has anyone else had this issue? It makes little sense to me that I shoud have to pay.

Could you tell me the name of the dealership or the factory rep so that if I am denied 100% coverage I can advise them that I know they are picking and choosing whom they will cover? I am just sick over this whole thing. I completely agree that they should cover everything due to their lack of quality parts.

    Volvo replaced our transmission (74,000 miles) last month in Virginia, and they did not request any service records. I'm not sure what difference service records make if they produced and installed a faulty transmission in our vehicles. You should not pay anything out of pocket. If you don't have luck with that dealership, try another or contact Volvo directly.

    I have heard the same - the only one with such problems is the XC90T6. The V8 and the 5 cylinder cars seem to be spared from this kind of problems.

    It appears that you never received a reply. My understanding is that the 5-cylinder model has a completely different drive train, from engine to rear axle. The problem GM transmission is only in the T6.

    Yep, just bought my 2004 T6 from a corner lot 45 days ago. Transmission failure the other day - 89,000 miles, Took it to the large local Volvo dealer and guess what!? Volvo is paying for the brand new transmission, radiator etc. 100% including labor. I'm so happy!!! This dealer has won me over as new customer. After this, I'll be servicing my 2004 XC90 with them.

    i get shivers reading some of these posts. i test drove an 2004 xc90 T6 today. drove nice except when i went to park it. i turned hard to the right and heard a clunking sound. I then felt the steering was shifting and somewhat loose. Anyone know about these problems? i love the car but sounds like potential trouble.
