  • Volvo V50 2005 Engine noise.

    Written by: v50owner on Oct 26, 2009 9:54:05 PM

I have a 2005 V50 with 67,000 miles on it. Love the car, after owning a 91 240 wagon for years. When I start the car I here this loud buzzing noise from the engine. When turning the engine off it continues for about 1 minute then clicks off. I lifted the hood and it is coming from this Silver cylinder in the very front of engine on drivers side. Next ... V50 vs. VW Jetta Sportswagen

  • Re: V50 vs. VW Jetta Sportswagen [citydriver1]

    Written by: bonnie9878 on Apr 13, 2009 10:26:14 AM

I am not sure that this response will be pertinent to you, but I replaced a 2003 Jetta wagon (TDI) with a 2005 Volvo V50 a few years ago. The reason I was looking to replace the Jetta is that I found the leatherette seats very uncomfortable. Otherwise, aside from it being underpowered, I was happy with the Jetta. Hope this helps. Perhaps the real leather or the cloth seats in ... Read More

  • V50 2005

    Written by: john1234 on Dec 28, 2008 9:08:41 AM

Hello Ladies/Gents.... I'm reasearching the above vehicle. My wife likes the Nissan Murano Se, I like the volvo V50 2005. We are comparing the 2 for both known/common problems and regular maintenance costs. We are located in Canada. We are both not the self fixing type when it comes to vehicles. At the same time we don't want to get into a vehicle with huge maintenance/repair costs. A few mechanic friends ... Read More

I'm not sure exactly what's wrong with my 2005 V50 T5. I've had it since July '05 and have about 25K miles. So far, have only had the radio freeze issue. But after a software upgrade, haven't had a problem since. Occasionally the radio stations change by themselves. I think there may be some vibration in the dash or something. As for fuel, the dealer told me I could use regular ... Read More

Is the problem is flow of fuel into the tank backing up and tripping the pump nozzle? That certainly would have me shaking my head that a $30K new car built by as experienced a brand as Volvo can't design a gas tank to displace air without vomiting gas back up the filler spout as the tank fills up. Here I thought I found a super duper fit for my needs ... Read More

I then retract - I read right over that at least a dozen times. I guess I was looking for the word fixed and subconciously skipped repaired. In any case, good luck.

I have copied and pasted the Point 3 from the webpage. See in bold. That hasn't been added by me but is actually in the brochure. OR 3. A vehicle has been out-of-service for diagnosis or repair of one or more nonconformities or serious safety defects (whether or not repaired) for a cumulative total of 30* calendar days, with at least 15* of those days occurring during the “warranty period.”

I was referring to the part where you wrote "fixed or not". You were referring to the days.

Hi, Here is the link to the Washingotn Lemon law brochure. On the second page, see point 3 for the conditions for a lemon. http://www.atg.wa.gov/consumer/Publications/LemonBrochure02_2006.pdf If I am not understanding it right let me know. Thanks

In that very sentence it says that in the end. That's your sentence - where in the WA state site does it say that?

    Written by: volvo_trouble on Oct 27, 2006 10:13:01 AM

In that very sentence it says that in the end. The mileage on my car is very low (13,000 miles) for the 2 years I have had it and the offset of use comes to less than $3000. This is all I am supposed to pay in case of a replacement (I checked with the attorney general help line). The dealership wants me to pay this + difference in invoice prices ... Read More

And as per Washington Lemon Law, if the car has been in the shop for more than 30 days for one or more problems, it qualifies as a Lemon whether the problem is fixed or not. I don't see where it says that even if the vehicle is now fixed and working that it qualifies as a lemon. Don't forget that if you do win in arbitration, you will be subject ... Read More

well, that's a good point about the 6 months in between. If you really want to be rid of the car, you certainly can try. If you have the paperwork that shows your car meets the criteria, I don't see how you wouldn't win.

As of right now the car is fine. But like I said, it was fine for 6 months in between too and the problem reoccurred. If I wait for another 6 months, then I loose the chance to file as a lemon. And it would eventually fall out of warantee where the expense for these repairs is going to be really high. The repairs they have done so far include replacing ... Read More

Hi martyt1. Volvo is not longer providing lease support on 2005 models, so you if you want to lease one you probably would be better off doing so through an independent bank. If you were to lease a 2006 Volvo V50 2.4 through Volvo Finance right now for 36 months with 12,000 miles per year, its buy rate lease money factor and residual value should be .00275 and 57%, respectively. Written by: v50mtl on Aug 24, 2005 3:22:50 PM

My 2005 V50 2.4i was recently back at Volvo to have the tint redone. I was given a loaner car, a nice S40 2.4i. The brakes on the S40 loaner were much firmer than my v50's - more responsive, had to push less hard, etc. I was jerking the S40 when I first started braking with it because I was used to pushing down harder on my V50. You all are not going to believe this...Volvo gave me back all my money for the V50 T5 AWD (the full price of the car, + my down, etc. with the stipulation of buying a new Volvo). Okay says me, so back to the credit union and I do a whole new loan (they weren't transferable), and it cost me a point in interest. So today I go back to the ... Read More

Well, I have a fight on my hands. Volvo told me today that (1) I could get the extended warranty (never mind that damage to the engine and starter are probably occurring and warranty or not who wants that?) or (2) they would "exchange" my vehicle for another Volvo strictly as a courtesy to me not, because they think it is a lemon. Well, its official....my beauiful V50 T5 AWD is a lemon. At Volvo's invitation, I went to the dealer today to pick out another model (the V50's aparently have an engine software glitch for cars running at high altitude and Volvo will not have a fix until end of October 2005 - or later, so I'm not getting another V50). :( I don't know if anyone test drove other Volvo models (XC70 ... The way I understand it is that all the other Volvo models do have an aux jack in the glove box (2005 + models) allowing one to hook up their iPod (and control it remotely). The v40/50's however do not have this and there are no plans to have one at this time. I was told by Volvo corporate (when the Apple press release was issued a couple of months ago) ... Read More

I was considering a 2005 V50. He told me the minor (7,500 and 22,500 mile) services would run about $140 each, Wow - $140 for an oil change and 5 visual checks and the major adds 2 visual inspections, a cabin air filter and a parking brake adjustment. Funny how Volvo's recommended services don't include tire rotations. http://apps.volvocars.us/ownersdocs/2005/2005_maintenance.html Are the prices for Volvo's chart or the dealer's chart?

Well I did exactly that prior to posting. I called the service department and the Service Manager was quite happy to tell me what a value the free scheduled maintenance was, as I told him I was considering a 2005 V50. He told me the minor (7,500 and 22,500 mile) services would run about $140 each, and the major (15,000 and 30,000 mile) services would run about $280 each. The minor ... Read More

I looked through the message boards, but haven't seen any discussion on this particular problem. I have a 2005 V50 T5 AWD that I purchased in mid-February. About two months into ownership I started having engine trouble when starting the vehicle. I'd turn the key and the engine would sputter/misfire and then stall about 10-15 seconds later. Generally as soon as it starts to sputter/misfire I turn it off then immediately ... Read More

As qbrozen mentions, a not-fully-tightened gas cap is the most likely suspect. If that turns out not to be the case, you might want to drop by our "Check Engine" light discussion and see what the folks there think.

Written by: qbrozen on Jun 8, 2005 7:04:57 AM

I'm going to guess that its just a loose gas cap. Unfortunately, if it works the same now as it does on my '98 volvo, even after tightening the cap, the light will not go away for about 7 days unless you get it reset by the dealer, of course, making you wonder for a full week whether it really was just the gas cap that set it off. Does anyone know who makes the engine and tranny in the new (2004.5 & 2005) S40 and V50? I suspect the 2.4L 5cyl is pure Volvo, but what about the tranny?

Wake up, everyone. I have a question. Is the Volvo S40 going to compete more against the IS300 or ES300? I assume ES300 because S60 fills the IS300 spot. I think the styling of the 2005 S40/V50 is wonderful!!!
