I have the same noise with my 2006 S80. I mentioned it to the Volvo Service people and they really didn't think much of it. As it has just started, I am not comfortable with ignoring it, especially since my warranty is nearly up. Any ideas?
Volvo, like all manufacturers makes occasional lemons. However, as I have said repeatedly, I have been very pleased with all three S 80's I have owned. My current '07 AWD V8 drives like a jewel. Volvos are not cheap to maintain, but I believe most are happy with them.
I am attracted to Volvo for ride comfort, ease of entry and exit, space (family of four) and a dash of driving fun. Too much to ask? Why do people buy a Volvo nowadays when all cars are equally safe? Is there a better choice for about the same chunk of change? The previous generation S80 was never more than a middling car. The seats are OK, but not nearly as ... Read More
What to look for/be careful about? I come from a generation of owning Japanese cars - the only American car I owned, gave me no end of trouble. I had a 2001 S80 and regretted it from the very beginning. It was a service loaner with 8000 miles on it. I traded it in a year and a half later with 28000 miles, and lost 50% of what I paid just to be rid of it. I traded it for a 2005 G35x which was nice for my wife but too small--we eventually traded that for a 2006 Lexus ... Read More
I had a 2006 Volvo S40 and I am looking for an upgrade luxury sedan. I am looking th new Volvo S80 or a BMW series 5. I know this is a Volvo discussion room but I will trust in your honestly opinions..... Any BMW driver that moved to a Volvo lately ????
I'm starting the process of deciding if to lease a 2007 3.2 S80. The current lease offer sounds appealing, but I'm trying to understand the math behind the numbers. I'm qualified for "X" plan pricing, customer loyalty (I'm currently leasing a 2006 S60), as well as another available incentives. I've read about the $11K incentive to finance through a bank other than volvo-finance (although my dealer acts like he's never heard ... Read More
Do either you or kiiwii have any suggestions for billod, "Volvo S80" #2052, 22 Dec 2006 5:48 pm?
the MKS won't use any of the Volvo engines or technology well, i guess that's technically true. It won't use a volvo engine. It will use the same Yamaha V8 as the S80, however. At least, that's what all the reports I've read have said. And, since both have AWD and a 6-speed tranny, I'd be surprised they wouldn't defray costs by using the same parts in both cars ... but ... Based on my 6 months (7244 miles) experience with 2006 Volvo S80 2.5T AWD, I highly recommend it. Runs great and very stable ride at high speed (>80 mph), so much difference from Honda Accord I used to have. I encountered one glitch at the very beginning (93 miles): check engine light on, which was easily fixed by software update. Fuel efficiency is better than published numbers (20/27), I easily achieved ... Read More
Do you need to carry 4-5 people often? If yes, - BMW 3 series is too small, if no - S80 is too big. 80-90% of the time, lev_berkovich it's myself, my wife, my 2 yr. old son, and my 10 month old daughter. I also plan on buying my G'Ma's 2002 Old's Aurora, which will fit 4 adults comfy and 5 in a squeeze. As said - choose your side ... Read More
MKS is built on "old" 1999-2006 S80 platform (P2). It is already used in Ford 500 and Freestyle, Mercury Montego, etc. The current 2007-... S80 is built on a new EUCD (medium-large) platform shared between Ford, Volvo and, potentially, Jaguar. So, MKS and a new S80 are two very different cars. P2 cars will not be built in Sweden. The former P2 platform becomes an American one, while EUCD - is ... Read More
So BMW slipped in 2006 ? They had the highest resale in 2005. I'm leaning torwards a BMW, because I only have to drive 45 minutes to get to the dealership in Amarillo. The Volvo, dealership is in Lubbock,(2 1/2 hours away)and I wasn't thrilled at all with the way they treated me when I was trying to buy a S60R. Rocky
The press release from Ford shows that they go on sale in June of 2006! I have already asked the three closest dealers to tell me when they will be able to order cars and when they will have them. Wow, what a handsome car with a beautiful interior, and loads of features (safety, design, drivetrain, and no I-drive, Comand, or other such nonsense)! Volvo also thought of things which others ... Automobile had some nice things to say in the link below (sorry, I was not quite sure how to paste a link in this forum). Sounds like Volvo is going to avoid going overboard with technology that can take the focus off the road. Thank God someone is listening. I test drove an A6 the other day, whose system is supposed to be better than most. It's still distracting, even the ... Read More
OK, this is from Motor Trend magazine, January 2006 edition. The Volvo XC90 was in a comparison test against the Mercedes R500 and Cadillac SRX V8. You can make your own guesses on how it finished, or ask me and I'll tell you. In any case here it is. The XC90 V8s curb weight is 4878lbs. 0-30 2.5 seconds 0-40 3.8 seconds 0-50 5.4 seconds 0-60 7.0 seconds 0-70 9.1 seconds ... Read More
It is old news, but here is the refresher. 2007 S80 311 hp V8, 6spd Geartronic AWD 235 hp SI6(new Volvo engine)6 spd Geartronic FWD. On sale 4th quarter 2006. Will be officially unveiled at the Geneva auto show in March.
I certainly wouldnt be suggesting that you should trade your Audi for a Volvo because of an IIHS score. The S80 is now on its 7th year on the market, and has not been a competitive vehicle for quite some time. Basically what I was saying as that Volvo vehicles are safer than ever, its just that many of the Europeans are starting to catch them. Its pretty difficult in 2006 ... Read More
Volvo has had this innovation for 40 years.
And the A6 trails the S80 in virtually every crash test rating. IMO, Audi has not kept up with Volvo (and others) in this regard.
I'm looking at the 2006 S80. As you might have guessed ... I'm concerned about safety. Can anyone tell me if the Volvo S80 has the type of engine that folds down and goes under the car (similar to the Audi A6) when in a head on collision? I have no idea what the technical name for this crash safety mechanism is called. Your help is appreciated!
Reading this board, I've been pretty surprised at the nasty things people have to say about S80's. My wife's 1999 T6 has 69k miles, and except for some problems resulting from a bonehead SUV driver plowing into it recently, those miles have been completely trouble-free. (That accident also destroyed an STC sensor, transmission control unit, and oddly the door lock on the opposite side of the impact.) It has been a ... Read More
