Hi Jean007 (Bond is it?) I think your concern is spot on if you plan on servicing it at a Volvo dealer. If you have a reasonable private mechanic maybe that's ok. I was principally concerned about safety and it has cost alot more than my Honda and Toyota for routine maintenance (which I always ... Read More

there is absolutely no way anybody can tell you what is wrong without at least reading the codes that are making your lights come on. If I were you, I'd be visiting the dealer or a dedicated volvo mechanic ASAP.
Jay and Chuchumouth..... First of all, I think any dealer telling you that you'd have to wait weeks and weeks to get an S80 the way you want is full of it. It's true that most of the 3.2s are ordered with the climate pkg, but that only adds a few dollars on the lease, not really enough to make a big difference. If I were you, I wouldn't get a 2000 S80 for my family. It took Volvo 4-5 years to get the S80 barely to average reliability. Also, do a search, I remember there was a airbag design flaw with the early S80. I may be wrong, I don't believe there was a recall on the airbag problem. You should be able to find some info from government crash test website.

I don't exactly know what problems you have, but as long as it's covered under the factory warranty, it should and will be fixed by the dealer. I couldn't stand the volvo wipers any longer due to chatter etc. Went to Autozone and bought Bosch Micro Edge and they are working out great. No chatter no noise. I bought the most expensive Bosch $12 and $16 but what a relief from the Volvo wipers. I own 2000 s80 which has been great except for a few minor problems at the outset. Have 65000 miles. Changed Michelin's at 57,000 ... Read More
Depends on who you ask. Recent discussion in "XC90 vs. MDX" forum indicates that general opinion of S80 reliability is still low. However, my experience does not support that opinion . Following is a note I posted on the other forum a week or so ago. For what it's worth, I have 56,000 essentially carefree miles on my 2001 S80 2.9. I have followed the Townhall discussion since I bought the ... Read More
Just thought I would let you all know that I have traded in my 2000 S80 T-6 for an Acura MDX. I am so happy. I got a mere $19,000 for it with 40K on it. I could have rec'd a few thousand more selling it myself but I just couldn't take the persons money knowing that I was giving them my 3 yr long nightmare. I was very disappointed with ... Read More
I have a 99 S80 2.9, it is now at 48k miles and is still running great. I plan on keeping the car for a few more years so I'm thinking about the extended warranty through Volvo. Any advice on this? Is it worth paying $2000+ for another 2/3 yrs and 50k miles of warranty? Any hidden terms I should be aware of? Also, my stock Michelin tires (MXM4) are almost ... Read More
I am on my 2nd s80, T6. First one was a 99 and had the horrific transmission problems. The dealer ended taking it back and I made the huge mistake of agreeing to take a newer 2000 model. It is the running joke of my neighborhood/family of having it constantly serviced. I service it almost every month! I won't take the space up to list all the problems. I had have ... Read More
My condolences on your repair experience. I've been off this board for some time as Volvo took back my 2000 S80 T6 about 3 months ago after 2 years of constant problems. If asked, I would certainly have advised against buying ANY S80, much less a one year old car with 50,000 miles on it! Mine had many problems, but the killer was the electrical system. Nothing ever worked right. Doors ... Read More
I bought a 2000 S80 2.9 and it has been nothing but problems. The transmission dropped at 50k, the onboard digital fuel economy gauge never worked (despite repeated trips to the dealer) and worse off, after three years, the driver's leather seat looks like it has 300k miles in wear. Did we get a lemon, or has anyone else experienced similar problems? This is our fourth and last Volvo. It's enough ... Read More
I have the 2000 S80 that just got its fourth transmission. I went to another dealership (not the one I bought it from, which I dont' like). On orders from Volvo, I will get resale value for my car and below dealer invoice for a new car. So now I'm deciding between an S60 and an S80. So it sounds like it might end up with Volvo standing up after all. ... Read More
I purchased my í99 Volvo S80 T6 with 55,000 miles in December of 2000. While I love driving my car, I have been plagued with what I believe is excessive repairs. I wanted to reach out to other Volvo owners to see if it is just my car or if this is what one can truly expect when purchasing this car. I have never been in any type of accident and ... Read More
Leased 2000 S80 2.9 in October 1999. Lease now nearing completion with 42K and my thoughts on the car. Exterior styling A+. still one of the nicer looking cars on the road. Interior styling A. quality of materials is OK and design of interior is pleasing to the eye. Reliability B+. a few recurrent repair issues, but all solved eventually under warranty. Service A+. Have received excellent service from Volvo of ... Read More
I have a 2000 S80 T6 with 27K miles. Less than a month ago, it got its fourth transmission. #2 lasted seven months, #3 lasted seven months, and I have no reason to believe #4 will last more than seven months. Needless to say, I'm convinced the car is a lemon. I've started a dialog with the regional Volvo guy to trade it in and get another. Any comments or suggestions? ... Read More
The stated contractual price for my 2000 S80 at end of lease is $24000, rather high, I think, even though it has a navigation system (2.9 model I read earlier on this board that one owner reported volvo finance lowering the stated price on his contract. Does this happen often? Can one negotiate with volvo finance for a lower purchase price?
i own a 1997 jeep grand cherokee limited with 77,000 miles. i've spent $3,500 maintaining it so far in 2002 with one problem after another. i have reached my capitulation point with this vehicle. i am looking at getting a 2000 volvo S80 T-6. i am also considering a cadillac seville STS and a lexus GS 300. but i really like what i've read about the volvo. the most important features ... Hi all, I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 Volvo S80, 2.9 (fully loaded with leather interior) that is off-lease with 85,000 miles. I know, rather high. Selling price is $17K. He came off his selling price (obviously not by much). This is a used car lot in town (good reputation) who only specializes in off-lease cars with higher mileage. Other car I'm looking at is an Audi A6 with 53,000 for ... Read More
Recently I called my dealer(Kundert Volvo in Hasbrouck Heights,NJ )to make an appointment for the 30,000 mile service on my 2000 S80. I was quoted a cost of $489.95. When I questioned the price I was told that it included a tuneup. I thought tuneups before 100,000 miles had gone the way of the dodo.Plus there is no tuneup listed in the 30k maintenance schedule. What's up?
