just purchased a 2000 S70, @ 119K miles. I'm hearing a very regular rattle at either the valve or deeper in the engine when i accelerate. It does feel like the power/acceleration is there, and the sound seems to lighten up as the car hits 30-40mph and higher. I don't know if we have a piston/cylinder/head issue (BAD) or is this a tune-up/oil change (and btw, a Volvo 'sound feature")? While ... Read More

Most likely cause of problem is a bad ABS control module. I have two 2000 S70 GLT/SEs and both have experienced this problem after 100,000 miles. Dealer repair can be $700-1000. New Volvo part alone is $450-900. If this is the problem, bypass the dealer and do the repair yourself for about $100. Rebuilt ABS modules are available for much less, and they are usually rebuilt better than the new units ... Read More

jonasrb, sorry to hear you have experienced this problem as well. Sad to sit in a parking lot in such a nice car cranking away with no results. Regarding 2000 Volvo S70 "No Start" problem. I have the same issue. I purchased car in 2002. Only had 10000 miles. Now have 45000. I've been to dealer 5 or more time for this problem. They seem to feel it is a problem with the antitheft system...the disabler. They've changed the antenna and cut new keys. Seems to go away for a while then begins again. You can tell it is ... Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of facing the fact that they may have acquired a lemon car and then be faced with what to do about it. My car has been in 4 times within 18 months of purchase for the same problem and ... Read More
I feel we're lucky here in the Denver area to have a good independent Volvo garage (called Nick's - plug. Nick if you read this I expect a "little something" LOL). Coincidentally while making an appointment there to do some routine maintanance on our 2000 S70 w/75000 miles, I asked Nick about replacing the timing belt (we replaced the serpentive belt at 70000miles as preventive maint.). Guys I read in different web sites that the problems with Electronic Throttle Body in S70 1998 – 2000, is well known by VOLVO and they compensate for the repair / replace cost. Is it true? Does anybody know how to do it. I am at the point to replace / Clean the ETS on my 99 S70. Thanks
Thanks so much for the information!!!!!!! I am really looking forward to getting something fun to drive- I loved my J30 but as far as maintenance goes- its was as, if not more expensive to fix than a jag- with the same frequency. First, thanks to everyone who were so helpful about the 60k check-up for the 2000 S70. The manual doesn't seem to call for any transmission fluid change or radiator coolant flush --EVER. It not an issue of the panel material its an issue of the glue holding the panel material to the door. Volvo does have a replacement kit available which is much cheaper than ordering all new door panels. As for the V70R, 2000 edition its panels will fit any 98-00 S70 or V70, assuming the color matches. The difference was the R panels were leather, the standard panels are vinyl.
I have a 2000 S70, GLT SE that I bought new. It only has 39,300 on it and during the past several years, on several occasions, I've had difficulty in starting it. We are thinking of buying a 2000 Volvo S70 (non turbo)with 55000 miles on it. The dealer is quoting us a price of around 16,000, including the certified/limited warranty. Any comments on the wood trim kits available for the base S70? Besides Volvo's OEM wood shift knob for automatic, does anyone else sell wood shift knobs that don't require me to trade in some of my T Bills? Thanks
Hi "fljint", As you may know, 69,000 miles on a Volvo is next to nothing. At least, that's my experience, based on the manual transmission '83 Volvo 240 wagon that I bought new in late 1982 and drove for over 15 years and more than 285,000 miles.
