I have a 2004 S60R and am having the same problems at 40,000 km with surging and hesitation usually starting at lower speeds and rpm. is it the etm or fuel pump? .I read the etm on earlier models had design flaw.Engine light comes on but only intrmittently. The dealer did the same BS attempt to download new software and then attempted to get me to commit to cleaning my fuel injectors. Yes Volvo does offer an extended warantee. If you're going to keep the car I'd get one, Volvo's are very expensive to fix. The hu-650 isn't as good as the 8xx, but its pretty good if you go into the hiddle equalizer and set the radio up. I leased a s80 from red bank in 2003. I found Volvo's to be a pleasant experience compared to a dodge or mercury.

I have a 2001 S60 2.4T and I have experienced the same problems and had the dealer do the same software upgrades. The first time they did the upgrade it seemed to smooth out the problem but then it came back. So when it happened again I took it in and they said that took out the Neutral function which was causing the problem (another software fix). The only other thing ... Read More

I'm in the same boat except I have a 2003 S60 2.4T. I'm a big fan of leasing, but not a fan of Volvo's. I've had problem after problem, and amazingly the warranty doesn't seem to cover it. Where you bought the car doesn't matter for service. You have to understand that if the techs can't find any fault codes they can't diagnose or repair anything. Reloading software is an act of desperation in most cases, since there probably wasn't anything they can do. Without you along to document when you feel this hesitation they can do anything either. It's true. Per the NHTSA, the 2003 Accord has better driver and front passenger impact ratings than the 2003 S60. The side impact ratings are the same for both cars. I just test drove an S60 2.4 and a Saab 9-3. I thought that the front visibility was a lot better in the S60 although the 9-3 has a definite "cool factor" that is hard to describe objectively. It appears that there are two differences between the 2003 and 2004 S60's. First the 2.4T model has been upgraded to a 2.5T engine with 208 horsepower and 236 torque, a 5% upgrade on horsepower but almost a 20% upgrade on torque. You can get the S60 2.4t for $27.7 through Volvo's Overseas Delivery program (check their website) without negotiating (and that includes airfare, hotel, insurance, shipping, etc.) I suspect you may even be able to beat this price at a dealership (i.e., talking to a regular salesman) if you wait for the end of the 2003 model line (which is very soon.) for 2003 all Volvo's will revert back to the body color molding! Thank the Swede's on high. The black plastic molding was one of the reason's I did not buy the S60. Great car btw, but really it was too small for my current needs, ended up with an A6 3.0.
