Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsThis engine is sweet. It was almost as quick as its 50 horsepower-advantaged big brother, the S60 T5. Zero to sixty and quarter-mile times were only three-tenths of a second slower than the S60 T5. The best run was with the STC off and braking off the line with the transmission doing its own shifting through the gears.
Braking commentsBrake performance was Volvo-solid with minimal nose dive and ABS system noise. Stability was very good with the S60 2.4T and the S60 T5 twins coming within a foot of each other. The S60 2.4T was just slightly better than the T5, but changes in weather conditions could explain that, since we tested them on different days. The bottom line is that either car has fabulous brakes.
Handling commentsMaybe it was because we were not comparing it to its competitors, like our previous encounter with a Volvo S60. Or maybe it was just better than its counterpart, because this car felt much better than the T5 version. It was much quicker through the slalom and felt much more solid. It did not have the rubbery feel that was characterisitic of the T5 we recently drove. Sure, just like the T5 version, it still had some body roll, but it was almost 2 miles per hour faster than the T5 we had recently tested. — Neil G. Chirico
