Poor Man's BMW

2001 Volvo S40 4dr Sedan (1.9L 4cyl Turbo 5A)

I bought in Feb 04, and fell in love immediately. Suspension is nice and tight with a feel that inspires confidence, but in cold MN winters it gets a little rough. Drives like other European sedans (Audi A4, BMW 3 series). I did have some problems with rear driver's side door locks, but easily fixed. Did also have problem with fuel pump. Both would have been pricey, but I bought an extended warranty - which I would recommend. Minor finish issues also with driver's door console, but that was fault of prior owner. Gas mileage is a little low in the city, but on the freeway at 75 it still gets 30-32 MPG. Overall, it is a very fun car to drive, very sporty, looks nice w/spoiler, fairly reliable.

Best Features

Looks (especially with rear spoiler!), turbo power, heated leater seats, split folding rear seat, 6 speaker sound system, 5-spd auto trans (very crisp!), suspension and tuning, head light wipers (not very functional, but they do help a little), braking very strong

Worst Features

Less torque steer when really giving it gas; better city gas mileage, although that might be partly a result of driving style (see previous point); traction control standard - for a car designed for Sweden and the winter over there, TC should be a given
