I, too, am considering getting the iPod music interface. I was told that it was $595 installed and that once installed by Volvo, it has a very good warranty. Given the price, I was curious as to whether anyone knows whether there is a harness or equivalent hardware set for the Volvo C70. It seems to be a crime to be able to install a Pioneer HD radio with XM satellite ... Read More

Volvo C70 Transmission Problems

  • C70 Transmission failure

Have a 1998 C70 Coupe. The automatic transmission is failing at 66.000 miles. My Volvo mechanic wants to replace it with a new one at a cost of $4,000! I feel I am being taken for an (expensive) ride. Does anybody have some suggestions ? Can this transmission be reworked by an independent shop ? What should I expect as a reasonable cost for this? :(

Did you ever get an answer to this issue with the alarm telling you the top is open when it's closed? It happens with my C70 whenever is it wet or very cold outside. My local Volvo dealership is telling me it will be $975 to replace the main position switch and rear latch potentiometer.

I love my 1998 C70, but I will admit that it isn't perfect. With proper maintenance it keeps running well, and I've been a stickler about repairing even non-critical problems. But this one has my mechanic stumped, and now it's escalated: First the passenger seat froze in a forward position. My mechanic (an independent Volvo guy) hooked it up to his computer and moved it back, but couldn't get the onboard ... Read More

sounds like you REALLY need to find an independent volvo mechanic. MUCH cheaper than the dealer. Also ... no offense ... but if you can't afford an $800 repair or service, you really should not be driving a european car. The timing belt really isn't a tough job. If you have anyone in the family who works on cars, they can probably handle it, maybe with the help of a repair ... Read More

The window issue is a known problem on the early C70's. Timing belt is due for replacement. Probably a good idea to repalce the water pump as well. The C70 didn't have any suspension problems, the suspension design is the same one as the S70. There are any number of reasons why your tires wore like they have. There are a number of independent Volvo shops in the DC area, you ... Read More

We got one of the first 1999 C70 convertibles in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in January 1999. We loved it and when we learned it would no longer be available later this year, we traded the 1999 in on a nearly identical 2004 (under the theory that it would then last 5 years longer). When looking at convertibles back in 1998 and 1999, what we liked about the Volvo was the ... Read More

Memory seats that don't require that you hold the memory button while the seat moves? No Antenna? Intergated Cellular phone option? The C70 is a marginally "decent" car.. not anywhere near some of the others in it's class. Volvo reliability is another HUGE question mark. Also, the C70 has been selling terribly! ... Read More
