Love my Swedish Brick!!!
Vehicle
1995 Volvo 940 4 Dr STD Wagon
Review
I come from a long line of Volvo fans and have owned three...two 240's & this '95 940 wagon (now at 150K mi). Although it's started to look a little worn around the edges, we still love it!! No, it's not exciting, it's not sexy, it's not exhilarating to drive, but it's comfy, safe and dependable and I'll take that over flash & excitement any time. With the rear seats down, the cargo area is huge, with a low sill and flat floor. The rear hatch swings up and out of the way...no head-banging like I deal with on our Acura MDX!. Unfortunately, the '95 940 was the last of the RWD Volvos that featured the most dependable drivetrain ever built, so it'll probably be my last brick. <sniffle>
Favorite Features
Easy to find parts, relatively easy to work on and just keeps running and running. Oh, and the best part is that its boring school-marm appearance acts as a cloaking device to the highway patrol! You can drive it with impunity at 90 mph...right thru a speed trap! Well, perhaps I exaggerate...
Suggested Improvements
The cruise control needs a "coast" or "decel" setting. It eats light bulbs & front brake pads (pad wear probably my fault) and some interior plastic parts have started to break, but after 150K miles without a major failure, I can cut it some slack if a sun-baked speaker cover falls off, y'know?

Review
1995 940. I bought it 7 years ago with 90,000 miles on it and now it has 207,000. Two years ago I was looking to replace it with a reliable used car with ABS, front air bags, cheap insurance and some sort of side impact protection. I could not find anything affordable so I spent 4 grand and had everything done to my current volvo. The engine runs like new, the transmission is starting to feel rougher than it did at 90k but should be good for another 50k at least. The best thing is...this is the same engine as latter year 240s, replacement engines are cheap, parts are on the internet, Swedishbricks website can tell you how to fix anything on your car.
Favorite Features
Everything is easy to fix or work on. Great expertise on the net to draw from. Wonderful seats, cheap parts, okay gas mileage, feel safe letting my kids drive it knowing I did everything to make them safe.
Suggested Improvements
Make my wife stop calling them nerd mobiles and start a massive re- education program for people whom tell me, "even Michael Jordan wouldn't look cool driving a station wagon."

I own only Volvos, for safety reasons, and I bought this 1995 940 for my teenage son. We have had no problems with it, although I have had problems with much newer ones. Mechanically nothing ever goes wrong. Gas mileage is really great. Looks good from exterior. Interior looks dated but it is very comfortable. I often drive it myself and would not be affraid to take it on a long trip. We just couldn't be happier with it.
Favorite Features
4 cylinder -- decent power and great mileage.
Suggested Improvements
The interior is dated. No cup holders, etc.

1995 Volvo Turbo Sedan
Vehicle
1995 Volvo 940 4 Dr STD Turbo Sedan
Review
One of 3 Volvos (89-740T, 940T &97- 850), we put 100k miles on this one. My wife does the majority of driving (15- 18k mi/yr) for work and short family trips. We needed room for 2 child seats & grandmother so good rear seat/trunk space were critical. Mostly minor maintenance (oil, gas), two sets of brake rotors (wobbles) required, one timing belt (133k mi) - not too bad overall. The B230 turbo motor is one of Volvo's best and it worked great for us. Once the Turbo spins up (lots of lag) there's plenty of power to move the very solid feeling car around. Has the famous Volvo turning circle (better than 850). Very solid and mostly reliable car.
Favorite Features
Very comfortable front seats (especially for long drives), very good sounding stereo, lots of rear seat and trunk space, great turning circle, better than 20MPG. Solid and safe feeling. Turbo still spining strong at 135k miles.
Suggested Improvements
Brake wobbles were a pain and rotor replacement is expensive. Possible electrical issues - light bulbs burn out regularly and we had a quirky radio. Cooling system is starting to see issues (radiator and AC leaks)

Fine Car
Vehicle
1995 Volvo 940 4 Dr STD Wagon
Review
I have owned many cars both foreign and domestic but this is by far the finest car that I have owned. It was purchased in 1998 with 43,000 miles and now has 120,000. Other than tires, and belts the only thing that has been replaced is the radiator, not bad for almost 80,000 miles. It is a reliable and safe car. The engine is well known to go over 300,000 miles.Thank you Volvo

I love my tank
Vehicle

Review
Every time I drive another car I realize how much I love the solid, safe feel of my wagon. We haven't had any major problems other than having to replace the interior door panels more than once due to warping. The headlights are "running lights" which means we can't turn them off under any circumstances while the car is operating (which can be a problem on the ferries) I love the boxy shape of the car and find the fabric interior comfy. Those Swedes don't want us doing anything unsafe like drinking coffee while we drive, so there are no cup holders!! But my peeves are totally outweighed by the car's smooth ride, solid feel and reliable performance.
Favorite Features
The turbo is a must. I like the split back seat and cargo space in the wagon area - Good car-seat tie-downs. Integral booster seat is great. The heat/A/C are powerful and the seat warmers are great!!
Suggested Improvements
Add cup holders. Add a remote lock control. Ours doesn't have variable intermittent wipers. Wish the seat warmers could be adjusted to a lower maximum temperature - they are bun burners once they've been on a while. The headlight settings are confusing.

What A Volvo Is
Vehicle
1995 Volvo 940 4 Dr STD Sedan
Review
All in all not a bad vehicle. I personally believe that this car is the epitome of what a Volvo really is. Simple, safe and effective at it's duties, it does nothing to stand out in one personal area. It does cost a pretty penny to service, and burns through tires quickly... but the tradeoffs in safety and comfort are worth it.
Favorite Features
Good gas milage at the expense of power, very high feeling of safety, decent stock sound system and relatively few problems.
Suggested Improvements
OEM gaskets and seals are terrible, if buying used, check for oil leaks around gaskets. Low power and has an appetite for tires. Light bulbs also burn out kinda frequently

reliable, safe, cheap ride for a student
Vehicle

Review
i have a volvo, yes im a poor college student looking for safety, reliability and, above all, a cheap ride. i bought the car off repo, and suffered a new rediator, broken antenna motor, oil leak, the vinyl was melted and warped from sun and heat, and 2 new tires in 2 years and at 149,000 miles.- not too bad for what i paid- . i do however, feel theres something lacking in the acceleration. the 0-60 speed is 12 seconds on a good day, slightly downhill. my girlfreind also has a 95 volvo 940 with an oil leak and shifter problem at 195000 problems- but owned it though every mile. her acceleration sucks too.
Favorite Features
uh, well, im not dead.- oh and the roominess and reliability are great.
Suggested Improvements
dont let ford screw up the company more than it has- you know we like the boxy style- shove the new styles up your muffler.
