A Sliding Tank

1990 Volvo 240 DL 4dr Sedan
This car was not designed to be driven in snow! It is rear wheel drive, and too much of the vehicle's weight is on the front wheels. Thus, the rear wheels have no traction on snow, and the vehicle is like a sliding tank. On the plus side, the vehicle is very solid; its engine and body are very good; and it is extremely reliable. On the negative, the fan/heater is way too noisy, and it does not control air temperature very well. In addition, I give the radio/cassette/speakers a rating of zero. Finally, to press the gas pedal in this car you have to move your foot too much to the left which makes for an uncomfortable position, especially on long trips!
Seat warmers, large trunk, sturdiness, reliability
Modifications needed so vehicle can be safely driven in snow
They race them in the snow in Sweden!
While there is little or no traction from a dead stop,
they do track well and maintain traction while moving.
