2013 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Executive 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbodiesel 8A)

I'm not gonna lie...$60,000 is not a cheap car by any means. However, when you stack it up against its competitors such as the BMW x5, Mercedes ML, Range Rover Sport, etc. it turns out that the Touareg has value on its side. Each of those can easily cost $10,000+ more that than the Touareg. I have owned several Acuras, BMWs and Lexus models over the years and this feels like a more solid car than any of them. Everyone that has ridden with me since I bought it comments on how heavy, solid and substantial that it feels. That said, it is still pretty nimble for an SUV of its size and weight. It is a little bumpy around town (but hey, it's an SUV) but it's like a dream on the highway.

Favorite Features

For a 5,000 pound SUV the gas mileage is outstanding. The 8 speed transmission and the diesel engine are well matched for each other. The engine has a nice, subdued growl. But...only the most astute and knowledgeable listeners will be able to pick out that it's a diesel. The Dynaudio stereo is better than any other premium factory system I have heard. Many of the other premium systems (Acura ELS, Lexus Mark Levinson) are quite good but sometimes don't get all that loud. The Dyanuadio is exceptionally clear and will get very, very loud.

Suggested Improvements

At this point, I honestly cannot come up with a single thing that I think needs to be changed or added. The only reason that I gave 4 stars for reliability is that fromm my research the Touareg has historically been slightly more problem prone than other vehicles and can be expensive to work on. However, the full bumper-to-bumper warranty is 4 years/50,000 miles and the powertrain coverage extends out to a robust 10 years/100,000 miles.
