2004 Volkswagen Touareg SUV V8 AWD 4dr SUV (4.2L 8cyl 6A)

Review

9,000 mi. car has been in shop more than 14 times. CD, NAV, constant problem with warning lights, rear lift keeps opening for no reason. Most dangerous is when driving from 1 thru 2nd car goes to neutral so you are turning into intersection and car does nothing. How many visits. VOA sent me to "Best" dlr. in area - clueless. Buy 2 cars year, never complained about the usual. This truck just has so many and nobody seems to care.

Best Features

interior comfort, power, ride is strong and secure. Mileage DOES improve after 7500 miles.

Worst Features

In dash CD player. Easier NAV. This makes the older NAV systems seem modern. NAV is a great step backward. Finally, neither XM, nor VW knows how to install XM radio, although both have tried.

Review

Lemon!!! As unbelievable as it may sound, I am in lemon law arbitration. After four attempts to repair the rear brakes from squealing...not just squeaking....VW wants to analyze the front pads. A stall tactic that has resulted in me hiring an attorney. Just beware!! I was told there are three other consumers at this dealereship experiencing the same problem.

Best Features

This is an amazing vehicle! There is no comparison in value and quality to the Cayenne. If it were not for the brake problem, we would be thrilled.

Worst Features

A training class to explain to us "non- ergonomics" how to program and understand the complexity of the sensor system.

2004 Volkswagen Touareg SUV V6 AWD 4dr SUV (3.2L 6cyl 6A)

Review

I bought a Touareg after owning an FX35 for three months. The FX35 never felt "right" too sporty in performance and atitude. Test drove a Touareg V6 and fell in love. Great ride - no attitude. Feels solid. Be sure to get the air suspension - makes a big difference in handling/performance. V6 has enough power.

Best Features

Cockpit design. All the toys

Worst Features

MPG! Better Nav system. In dash CD changer.

Review

Thoughts after 4500 miles: great initial impression, but as I drove the vehicle daily I found it was the small stuff that bugged me. Wipers chatter & won't effectively interval; in-dash CD occassionally won't eject disk; stereo sounds very poor; always "beeping" to alert you of something; rear entry requires remote electronic release; harsh acceleration; etc ... Traded in a Land Cruiser for this vehicle & it was a mistake.

Best Features

- styling - handling - v8 power

Worst Features

- improve electronics - improve stereo - improve wipers "pay attention to the small stuff"

Review

The base T-Reg is the one to get. If you are willing to forgo the pwr seats (one more thing to break), nav (ditto), and leather this is a bargain. I got mine with the upgrade stereo and HID for 36K. Actually, the "leatherette" looks great will hold up better than the real thing esp. with pets/kids/etc. In Europe, this seating is very common. The V6 has plenty of power & decent mpg. It also lacks the drivability probs of the V8. With std sunrf, trac, multi airbag, HID, heated seats, auto dual zone a/c & 4500 lbs of German steel, VW must be losing money on every one. This is truly a BMW X5 for the price of a Ford Explorer.
