That sounds like a good price with the sunroof and 17"wheels upgrades. When I took the Rabbit to our local VW dealership they told me that we got a really good deal on our VW and that we were fortunate to find a used 2009 with low milage in the area. They said it is hard to find used Rabbit's. I did have to have the iPod feature replaced as it ... Read More

Hmmm. I have a chance to buy a 2009 2 dr auto with 6k miles, sunroof and 17" wheels/tires, alas no iPod, for $13600 plus ttl. Does this sound like a good/fair deal? It is in very good condition but is not VW CPO as it was traded in to a non-VW dealership. Other cars we compared were Hyundai Elantra Touring, Nissan Versa, and Nissan Altima (yes it's more). I said goodbye to my 2007 Rabbit yesterday. It was a great car which I loved to drive, and cost me only gas and insurance during the 8 months I owned it. But my wife has a bad back and it was hard for her to climb in and out of it (although she too liked driving it). Also, we recently sold our minivan and were left with two small cars. ... Read More

a used 2009 VW Rabbit 2 dr Automatic with 10,240 miles for $13,000. It has the ipod upgrade as well (we really like this). Does this seem like a fair price? I hope we got a good deal, we really like the car, it does seem bigger and more solid than most of the compact cars that we looked at.

I have a plan to buy a New 2009 VW Rabbit 2.5L S / Automatic model. I got an offer at OTD $13988 from MSRP $18164. Since VW will stop Rabbit next year and change Golf lineup, I am expecting a very good deal at the end of this year and at the end of production. Do you think OTD $14K is a good deal? Thanks.

Congrats on your new Rabbit! I did a similar switch back in April, went from a 2005 Jetta GL 2.0 (with AT though) to a 2007 Rabbit 2 door (with AT also). I liked the Jetta, but had it only 3 months before it was totaled. But I made out OK in the switch, as the Rabbit is clearly a better car than my Jetta. As you noted, more power (I ... Read More

Sure has improved (ride, handling, quiet, power) since my last VW Golf, a 2004 4 door 5 speed. Cabin materials and quality are even a little better, but they have always been superb. Engine rpm seem to be 1,000 rpm lower than on the old 2.0. The 2.5 is super smooth, especially compared to the early production run which I test drove when it came out. If I didn't know better, ... The MDI only works on the RNS-510 but the RCD-510 and RCD-310 both work with it. The RCD-510 is like a non nav RNS-510 with no hard drive and a built in CD changer. Another change or two to mention. On the 2 door model, the center armrest feature is still not available. The change is that unlike the 2008 model, you can't have the dealer install the center armrest as a dealer-installed feature for 2009. My understanding is that the armrest has an i-pod adapter built in, but only on the 4 door model. The 2 door model has an "audio-input" installed inside one ... Read More

A two door... I've been all over the map lately, with some very different options. I started out looking at the Infiniti M35. I like the simplicity. I really think Volkswagen does interiors nicely. When ... Read More

I think maintenace costs can be a bit higher, but to worry about maybe $100-200 difference in maintenance costs over 3-5 years, as some seem to do, when you are spending nearly $20K, on a vehicle does seem too logical to me. We have a 2005.5 Jetta (maintenance requirements should be pretty similar to the rabbit) and have done all maintenance at the dealer according to the VW schedule and in ... Read More

I recently found myself asking the same question: Rabbit v. Astra? Both cars have been on sale in Europe for a few years - so new model design issues were not a concern. Both cars received less than optimal engines for their US release (Astra's is heavy and underpowered - Rabbit's is heavy, almost too much power, and can be thirsty if you're prone to spirited driving). It's looking pretty certain that a Jetta TDI will be available in the March-May 2008 timeframe. There's no reason why the Rabbit TDI shouldn't go on sale at about the same time. The Jetta TDI is supposed to have a 2.0-liter engine -- I assume the Rabbit will get the same engine and not a new version of the recent 1.9-liter engine.
