Volkswagen Rabbit MPG - real world numbers

Poor Mileage: 2008 2.5 Rabbit Auto 4-door

I have had my Rabbit for about 2000 miles now. I really like the car, but am extremely disappointed in my mileage. The sticker had and EPA range of 22-29. I made the transition to drive conservatively a while back as gas prices went up, and am doing the same with this car. During my approx. 8 fill-ups since I owned the car, I am consistently getting around 19.5 mpg. I ... Read More...

08 Rabbit concerns?

Re: 08 Rabbit concerns? [driveinalong]

A couple of points: 1) I believe that all VWs since about 2006 have come with Synthetic oil from the factory. 2) To be sure, all 2.0T engines require synthetic oil that meets the VW 502.00 oil specification, and it is my understanding that the 2.5T and the 3.2 and 3.6 liter VR6 motors have come with 502.00 synthetic oil since at least that time as well. 3) The three most ... Japanese Vs. German

I have made that move.

I recently purchased my second brand new car- a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit, 2 door manual. The first car that I purchased brand new was a 2000 Honda Civic DX. My civic was a great economical car and suited my needs well at the time (I was 20 when I bought it). After the Civic I purchased a used, but in excellent condition, Acura Integra- another Honda. The Integra was similar ... Read More...

Mazda3 2.3 vs. '07 VW Rabbit

Re: Technology [backy]

Lumping all cars manaufactured by the various companies within a givin nation seems pretty pointless. Let's face it... no company has a perfect batting avg. for all cars inall segments. My wife and I have been dedicated VW fans. In fact at 170,000 miles - the '97 Jetta needed to be replaced. Naturally we went into the VW dealer all set to but another Jetta or Rabbit. ... My Rationale...

I am going to get a Rabbit. I am shopping around for the best price on a United Grey 4 door Automatic. I know full well what I am getting in to. I've been debating the Rabbit versus other cars in its "class" for over a month. I understand that maintenance is a little bit more expensive, and fuel economy isn't great. I've test driven a number of cars including the Yaris, ... Read More...

Mazda3 2.3 vs. '07 VW Rabbit

Re: Recent comparison [pianomanum]

There was no comparison, the Rabbit won hands down. For starters, the VW was MUCH quieter while driving. I felt like I could hear everything on the road in the Mazda, and I had to raise my voice to talk to my wife. The Rabbit also felt much better on the road, including some acceleration superiority over the Mazdajust test drove those two cars because I was on the fence. ... Read More...

National Backorder - VW Customer NO Care

I had a front collision (no injuries) with my 2006 Rabbit. Among the replacement parts needed is a radiator. Believe it or not, there is so far a 2 month national backorder on them. It's hard for me accept this situation on a current production model. What should have been 1 week to get me back on the road is going to take at least 8 weeks. My insurance only covers rental ... Rabbit Reliability...Convince me it's better than a civic!

Re: Rabbit Reliability...Convince me it's better than a civic! [livewire852]

i dunno if i can 'convince' you that its better, i owned a 2006 civic ex sedan and have had a 2007 2 door rabbit auto for almost a year, both with no real issues. The civic has always been a model example of efficiency and reliability, whereas vw, while suffering from the past errors of quality issues, has come out with a good prodcut that is significantly more reliable ...
