I found this cool comparison of the 2008 R32 and the 2004 R32 at this Portland Volkswagen Dealers blog. Its pretty cool, they had a blue 2008 R32 and a blue 2004 R32 took them out for test drives and compared how they drive and such.
1. My 2008 R32's DSG transmission is doing the exact same thing you describe above in point #2 when going from 2nd to 1st gear. Do you know what this problem is? Has your dealer corrected it? 2. I just ordered the VW basic roof rack for my car. Any advice to avoid the dents in the roof? Thanks
Hi Keith, Just a quick note on your fuel issue. I don't know if this applies to you, but here in the States, VW released a recall on the fuel system. I had it done last week, and haven't had the fuel cap light since. It didn't come on a lot with my car, so I'm not 100% sure that it's fixed. I don't know if your car's fuel/emissions system is ... I'm about to pass the 23,000 mile mark on my 2008 R32 on Monday so I figured I would share some of my experiences to see if anyone else out there is having some of the same issues. 1. Fuel Light Fault - I've had this fault almost as long as I've owned the car. Also immediately after fueling when I try to start the engine it will choke and sometimes ... Read More
Follow-Up Test: 2008 Volkswagen R32
Are you referring to the R32 or GTI? I thought VW has finished producing all 2008 R32 headed to the US and all are equipped with the older NAV system. If they are going to roll out the R32 with an RNS-510, I will definitely wait!
I traded in my 2006 GTI in mid summer of 07 for a brand new VW R32. Having upgraded the ECU in the GTI and bumping it to 267 HP i was a little reluctant at first on trading for the R32. To my wonder the R32 just felt quicker and smother. I do miss the 6 speed but I am getting very used to the DSG. I still have my ... Read More

R32 with it's cheapened more rubbery plasticky interitor, and maybe you'll even opt for the stock 10 spoke 17" rims as well. You wish. Keep telling yourself that, and you'll most certainly enjoy your newer slower, R32 with it's cheapened more rubbery plasticky interitor, and maybe you'll even opt for the stock 10 spoke 17" rims as well. Try comparing interior photos to the last version and you'll instantaneously see what I mean. Note that the new drivers door arm rest ISN'T made of brushed aluminum. Sure the last version didn't have nav. ... Read More
i know you probably just joined this site to post this one thing, and may never post again, but i'll respond to you regardless. How is leather not an option? ITS STANDARD on the new r32. SLOWER than the original? The last time i read had it at 5.8 seconds. Gets worse fuel economy? who cares! the engine is making more power at LOWER rpms! and even if it is a ... Read More
Let's see. This time around LEATHER seats are NOT an option, while the STANDARD 18" wheels of the '04's ARE. It's hard to believe when you think about it. Compared to the beautiful '04's 14-spoke wheels, the '08's 10-spoke ones absolutely pale in comparison, and that's not to mention that the car itself (Rabbit) is now rather ugly compared to it's predecessor, with it's audaciously overstyled front end and bubble-butt rear. ... You say " how many are going to want to pay more for a car that is no faster or at worst slower" . I for one! I ordered a United Grey 2008 R32. It is already built and somewhere between the factory in Germany and the dealer in Seattle. VW says it will arrive the end of Aug. I can't wait. By my calculations the R32 is only $3900 more ... The R32 has always been an interesting car to me, and the previous generation was a legitimate step up in performance over the 1.8T GTIs it shared the showroom with. However, now that 2.0T GTIs are around and folks like Car and Driver are getting 0-60 times of 6.2 seconds, the new R32 is not appearing to be much of an upgrade. Sure, the VR6 sounds sweet and AWD will give ... Read More

Hi eldaino- There certainly will be youthful people who will be interested in the newest R32 variant. It's just the $32,000+ pricepoint and finding insurance coverage that will make it difficult for many buyers. If the R36 ultimately makes it to these shores, it will likely be making over 300 horsepower. VW will have "some big shoes to fill" with the 2008 R32 that is available for order at dealerships now ... Read More
Hi eldaino- The 2008 R32 can be ordered at your local Volkswagen dealership as we speak. It will arrive on these shores as the R32 and not the R36 many people expected. It will come solely as a three-door, six-cylinder model in bright blue with anthracite gray interior. It is my sincere belief VW should also offer it in a more sedate color like silver exterior with black leather interior for ... Read More
...as VW has announced the re-introduction of the R32 in late 2007, as a 2008 model. The new R32 is essentially an Audi 3.2 S-line (AWD, Haldex system, etc.), but with only 3 doors, different interior trim, and (before options and the inevitable dealer markups) estimated to price at $32K. And as before, only 5000 per year will be imported.
