2004 Volkswagen Phaeton Sedan W12 4dr Sedan (6.0L 12cyl 5A)

Review

Arguably the best car made. Unfortunately the brand is too inhibitive for its success. People, who do their research and are not stuck on brand image, would have a very difficult time to buy anything else. Workmanship, and attention to detail is better than Lexus, or S- Class. The exterior is the only weak element, as it is rather plain. But in my case I am glad to go anywhere "in cognito". Otherwise, the road manners are second to none. The car is glued to the road, the ride is comfortable and there is always plenty of smooth power. The interior is quite as can be, and the wood and dash with the "indirect" climate system is fantastic. You can literally hear the pin drop at 80 mph.

Best Features

Super smooth, quite and powerful W12 engine, comfortable seats with heat & cool, the interior layout is nice, with plenty of wood. I really like the indirect climate system as well as the All wheel Drive system which is exceptional, etc...

Worst Features

The electric trunk lid is a nice gizmo, but has its drawbacks when loading the trunk full, it won't close. Operation seems fragile, and you can't really use it manually. Make XM/Sirius Standard, offer a standard remote starter, include Bluetooth.

2004 Volkswagen Phaeton Sedan V8 4dr Sedan (4.2L 8cyl 6A)

Review

VW really messed up not advertising the Phaeton. If you want an all weather luxury cruiser this is it, period. It sure is a bargain in the used vehicle market right now. It has more well thought out bells and whistles than I can use. It absolutely puts my first generation Audi A8 to shame and it is a great car.

Best Features

Nothing not to like.

Worst Features

Lighten them up a little to get better gas mileage, but it's not a killer. Get rid of video acceptance screen every time you start it.

2004 Volkswagen Phaeton Sedan Premiere Edition W12 4dr Sedan (6.0L 12cyl 5A)

Review

Thank goodness the Phaeton bombed in the market, because it allowed me to get a low-mileage W12 for barely more than $50,000. I've been in almost every hoo-hah car on the planet and this one's the best. It's outlandishly fast, solid, beautiful and incredibly comfortable. The stereo is awesome, and they could fight a nuclear war outside and you'd never hear it. By the way, I will never understand why luxury car buyers complain about fuel economy! If you're too cheap to buy a lot of gas, then for goodness sake don't get a 12-cylinder car.

Best Features

Selectable suspension and transmission, fast W-12 engine, fantastic stereo, plush interior, and quiet ride.

Worst Features

There are enough gadgets in this car to confuse Bill Gates.

Review

I love my Phaeton! It is a pleasure to drive and elicits very positive comments from other drivers. My passengers love the cavernous back seat leg room and comfort features. The upgraded stereo is awesome, as is the cooling/heating system. Considering the great deal I made ($54,300), this car is a great value.

2004 Volkswagen Phaeton Sedan V8 4dr Sedan (4.2L 8cyl 6A)

Review

My Volkswagen Phaeton V8 is by far the best car I've ever owned or ridden in. This is not a car for status seekers. It's a car for people who want to drive the best large luxury car but don't want anyone else to know. The only down side to owning it is when you have to take it in for normal maintenance you don't get the same level of service you get from the other luxury dealerships. They try but truely don't understand their Phaeton clients.

Best Features

The interior is very high class. The all wheel drive sticks like glue in the rain.

Worst Features

Add a DVD-based navigation system with voice recognition and Bluetooth.
