I believe that our car was under warranty but the key here is that we had a history of bringing the car back to the same dealership for several years with the recurring issue. I suggest gathering the evidence from this site on all of the cars of this vintage that have this issue and bring it in and show the VW dealership all of the similar issues. It is a ... Read More
I have a 2007 Passat as well and it is burning through oil. Was hoping to find out if there was a fix for that? Did VW step up or bow out? Thanks,
Hi there, My 2007 Passat 2.0 Turbo engine is burning through oil as well. We are pretty far past warranty at 63,000 miles. Were you still under warranty when VW replaced the engine for you? Did they cover all the expenses? Did you take it to the local VW dealer to get this fixed? It sounds like your perseverance really paid off and I'd like to take a similar approach. Thanks ... Ok - here is what I did. I searched through this site and found appx 10 others that complained about the same issue and made copies to make a report. We went to vw and said that there is clearly a design issue here and it is well documented. They ran the oil test, they saw we were burning oil and replaced the engine. Once they removed the engine, they found ... Read More

This vehicle needed a new catalytic converter at 50K miles. It was always losing oil and the oil pressure alarm would go off at lower RPMs. I was told by dealership that this was normal for turbo engines and to just monitor the oil level which I did. spl: Perhaps Shiftright or Shipo might have some specific instructions for you, but if you are a do-it-yourselfer and plan to do this and other work yourself, just pick up a Haynes manual or similar for your Passat. I am a new proud owner of a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T. I just had it go through a Diagnostic scan. Found out that its a problem inside the motor itself, so therefore, the driver side cooling fan (300w/360mm - 4pin) must be replaced. What tools would I need to replace it, and would it consist of taking the front end apart? I am looking for for help. Dont want to ... Read More
I don't think there is a relay. I think the fan control module acts as a relay if I'm reading the diagrams correctly. I'm sure there is a way to test the sensor but without a scanner and all those VW doo-hickies they use, I have no idea how you'd do it.
The fan runs well after 15 minutes. It keeps running til the battery runs out. Also everytime I reconnect the battery, the fan starts up without starting the car. So, is there a way to test the engine temperature sensor and the fan to see what the problem is?? I went to autozone, and they said that they'll only run the scan if the engine light is on. No indication lights ... Read More
The fan is allowed to run for up to 15 minutes after the engine is shut off. So anything under 15 minutes is normal, and if your battery can't handle that, then the battery or charging systems is substandard. if it runs longer than 15 minutes---what I'm seeing in the database is that there is an engine temperature sensor located in the upper coolant lines (diagram is a bit vague), which ... Pre-2006 VWs were prone to electrical issues. A non-dealer mechanic, no matter how much they call themselves VW specialists, are really out of their league (as are most independents for other brands) because these cars are really complicated. Yes, in the States, VW 502.00 is specified for both the FSI (through 2008.5) and the TSI (2008.5 and later) versions of the 2.0T. ;) Best regards, Shipo
Shipo, maybe you know the answer because I don't, but what is the VW Spec for the 2006 2.0T? That's what the original poster has. I know 502.00 was okay for the previous gen Passat. Not sure if that applies to the B6 version.
Common VW 502.00 oils available in the U.S.: - Castrol Syntec 5W-40 - Castrol Syntec 0W-30 - Mobil 1 0W-40 All three are acceptable for primary use during an oil change as well as for topping off in between oil changes. Best regards, Shipo
Hello, 17345: Not wise to use ANY oil that is not on the VW-approved listing (I believe altair4 posted the actual list a couple of months back, so check it out). Also wanted to respond to the comment on Alldata's alleged advisory that it's "OK to use 5W-30 if 5W-40 is unavailable". VW Manager at local Dealer told me they are extending a $5000 incentive which was supposed to end last month. That along with $1500 loyalty would bring cust cash to $6500. Depending how close you could bring price down to invoice, you could get a sick sick sick deal. I am contemplating trading my 05 in for an 07, depending how much i get for trade in.
That is what I thought. I had a conversation with the dealer today. They pretty much said they wouldn't discount the TDI much at all. But, they have a few 06 Passats with very nice discounts. I might go that route since the bigger car is little nicer for the family. They are not TDI cars, but they still get a lot better mpg than any truck.
2006 VW Passat 2.0T windshield wiper/motor recall I turned in my 03 Jetta and leased a 06 Passat and ever since then I have had nothing but problems. First the headliner needed to be removed because the satellite radio antenna was cracked when I purchased the vehicle. I could not see it..I think when they detailed the car it was damaged when it was washed since it's just cheap plastic. Afer ... Read More
Hi motorin75. While I do not personally keep tabs on manufacturers' balloon note programs, the interest rate that you were quoted for one on a 2007 Passat does sound a little high. Volkswagen Credit's current buy rate lease money factor for a 36 month lease of a 2007 Passat 2.0T Sedan is .00222. This is equivalent to an interest rate of around 5.33%. While it does not necessarily have to be, ... Read More
Hello Forum - I receive invoice pricing on VWs through my work. I'd like to lease a 2007 Passat 2.0T w/ option1. Dealer tells me invoice is 25K and change. Quoted me $380 per month. Zero down. I pay all fees and taxes (a lot in Chicago!). Now, we have the dreaded 'use tax' in Chicago which is 6.5% so I was advised some type of balloon lease to avoid this. ... Read More
I have a 2000 Passat 1.8 l 4-dr sedan with 70,123 miles on it. BOTH drivers side window regulators went out within 2 weeks in July 2006. Then in March 2007 the front passenger side regulator went out. All together, Ive spent $1250+ repairing the windows! I'm scared to even roll them down at this point. If anyone does have info as to action taken against VW, let me know. And ... Read More
The sticker, in and of itself, doesn't mean that brand of oil is actually in the crankcase. My dealer has GTX Castrol stickers, Agip stickers, and "the VW Store" stickers. What's in the sump is Mobil 1 0w-40.
"I am using Mobil 1 5-30 Extended Performance. I do not know if this meets the current spec's from VW." Mobil 1 EP, regardless of weight class, does not meet the VW 502.00 spec for your engine. "Does VW publish a list of oils which DO meet their spec's and will not sludge with 5000 mile changes?" Yes, but I don't have the link on hand. "Sorry for the novice questions ... Read More
