I currently have two Jettas (2007 and 2009). Both have the 2.5 gas engine and Tiptronic 6 speed automatic. Both cars were made in Mexico. My 2009 was purchased new and now has 53,000 miles. I have not had one item go wrong which would have required warranty work at the dealer. This is impressive, as I cannot recall purchasing a new car in recent years that have never had anything ... My car has recently been shutting off while idling or in the parked position. I've taken it into the VW dealer four times and they cannot seem to find out why it just shuts off. They have cleaned the fuel injection system because they initially thought it the problem. My battery recently went completely dead - they had to replace it. Now the car is running fine again and it probably ... Read More
Today my car started to give that feelings as if it was going to die on me. I live in AZ and I know the temps have been extremely hot, but I just had the works done on the car a few months ago ($1000) to ensure it was in its top form. This concerns me as I spent the money to prevent things like this from happening.... I tried calling ... Read More
I have two Jettas - a 2007 and 2009. Both of these cars have the Tiptronic 6 speed automatic transmission. I believe you can tell this transmission by the shifter. These both have a manual mode, whereby you can move the transmission lever to the right and then shift the car manually. This transmission also has an "S" mode, similar to "D". S is the Sport mode and holds the shift ... Read More
I have a 2007 GLI 2.0t and it does the same thing when I go on long road trips. It's like the fuel injection shut off for like a few seconds then it comes back on. Then the next day my car runs perfectly fine. I'm guessing it's a fuel censor. Did you fix your car yet? If so please let me know what the problem was. Thanks
In April 2011, I purchased a high mileage (107k), late model (2007) Jetta Wolfsburg Edition 2.5L I5 6AM. This is my 2nd Jetta (formerly owned an '03 that was totaled in an accident involving my daughter). The miles are all highway, the car is in excellent condition and is solid and sufficiently powered. I've had some transmission issues on other high mileage vehicles that I've owned so I researched the maintenance ... Read More
I have a 2007 Jetta 2.5L and I was on a four hour road trip when my car felt like it was stalling. I pumped the gas and it jerked but continued running. It did this a few times on the way there. Agreed that an idle shut-off would help mpg in NYC! Is that feature on the 2011 TDIs? You asked "if Prius's were so good, why did it take the NYC taxi community app 10 years to start to implement the brand as Taxi's?" Answer: the sluggishness of bureaucracy combined with our general resistance to the new. All things considered, I'm impressed that the city under Bloomberg started pushing for hybrid taxis ... I own three VW's (2008 New Beetle Convertible, 2007 Jetta, 2009 Jetta) that all have the 2.5 gas engine with the 6 speed tiptronic automatic transmission. Mileage is between 17,000 and 55,000 depending on the car. This engine / transmission seems to be rock solid. I have a 2009 Jetta also with the Sirius radio, as well as a 2007 Jetta (standard radio - not Sirius). Both cars have the same no light display on the radio, unless the headlights are turned on. If you have driven the 2011 Jetta and like it, then go ahead. I have a 2007 Jetta, a 2009 Jetta, and a 2008 Beetle Convertible. VW's drive great, are tight bodies, and generally a fun car. My experiences with VW dealership mechanics locally has been consistant...incompetence.
Have the mechanic inspect the calipers. My Jetta did the same thing. VW did NOT catch that the calipers were failing, causing the emergency brake to stay engaged.
Update...I took my 2008 Jetta to Meineke to have the brakes inspected. They discovered that my calipers were defective. My emergency brake was remaining engaged, causing the premature wear of the brake pads. The mechanic actually had to use a crowbar to pry loose the emergency brake. Volkswagen stated that they could only replace one caliper with the warranty. I was told I have to wait and see if that fixes ... Read More

I just noticed they don't have that language in the vw.com online schedule for 2007 models. It only appears for the 2006. It is also printed in the book for our 2005. What do you need to "work out"? Your car is under warranty and they are fixing it as needed, right? I'm guessing the warranty will continue to be in effect for the entire length of the lease as this seems to be the way lessors do things...so what is the issue?
First at just 500 miles the dealer had to replace the automatic transmission. Now at 29k miles, they just replaced the Drive Shaft. Unfortunately this does not qualify my car as a lemon. I'm under a lease, I'm about to call VW customer care to see if they can work something out with me. Anyone has any experience with them?

I was told the same thing about "German cars" by the dealer where I bought my 2007 Jetta (brake dust from rear wheels was excessive.) Since that's NOT how front wheel cars work, with their high front weight bias, I took my car to another dealer. They spoke with VW and found that the rear calipers were bad - on some number of cars - and replaced mine with new and ... Read More

I read in passing it was technical issue found in durability tests and planned corrective actions. As I recall, the VW article (press release) I read was not any more specific than that. They took this action as part of VW's constant improvement program. i just had my sons 2002 gls jetta , timing belt changed and also the water pump. reason being for the water pump is ,sooner or later you'll have to have it done and it saves you on labor costs to do both at the same time. i had this done in june 2007 at a cost of $535.00. you should spend the extra dollars to do both. as for the ... It took me 37 seconds to search the internet and locate this step-by-step procedure with photos. Perhaps the most important part is to make certain that the O-ring is installed properly. I am glad to see that VW has started using these high-quality filters on the gasoline engines. (why purcahse a tin can with puny filter inside when all you really need is the FILTER itslef!)
I will say this about buying a car, no matter what you do or buy, there will always be a risk of getting a lemon. I will say as the owner of 3 vw's an 81 jetta, a 2001 and now a 2007 jetta, you really need to stick with the maint. schedules, as with any vehicle, and the next best thing is to find a well recommended german car mechanic. ... Any current dealer cash incentives or rebates on the 2007 VW Jetta Wolfsburg?
Here is how CR itself puts it (April 2007 issue): If the only things that mattered to a car buyer were performance, comfort, and safety, Volkswagen would be at the top of the heap. Its Volkswagen and Audi models do well in handling, braking, and standard safety features. But few VWs have decent reliability. Conversly, if all that matters to you is reliability, then I guess Toyota is your best bet. ... Read More
I would not suggest that you buy a Volkswagen especially between the years 2000-2007. They are poorly built (I heard between the years of 2000-2007 are built in Mexico not Germany) because you're going to end up spending a lot money on repairs, costly engine and transmission problems. Engine light that never goes out and etc. I have done my research and I tell you lie - take my advice stay ... Read More

Hi ipip316. $100 over dealer invoice is a very good price for a leased '07 VW Jetta Wolfsburg, but you mentioned that the invoice price the dealer is using does not match up with the one that is available here at Edmunds.com. How much higher is it? Perhaps the dealer is including some sort of advertising charge or dealer fee in the price that they quoted you. Car_man Host Prices Paid: ... Read More

No problem, movinglp. Let's work up a lease payment on the car that you are interested in and see what we come up with.
