    Does it look like this spring? Not a mystery at all. This is very VERY common. The spring "assists" the seat when adjusting it.     Have you had the battery checked? Free at Autozone. Loose or corroded connections on battery. Loose belt on alternator. Bad alternator. Bad diodes in alternator. Bad dashboard dimmer switch. These are the things I would look at. Might be other things that other people might come up with that is more specific to VW.

    That sure sounds like the ABS system kicking in to me. If you apply the brakes too hard on slippery surface (snow/sand) then the brake-pedal will kinda "vibrate" as the ABS system does its thing.     I have disconnected the batteries in my 2004 Passat and 2006 Jetta TDI's numerous times and have never experienced the problem you are describing. I know bpeebles knows the older model Jetta much better than I do, but my experience is that after re-connecting the batteries the on-board VW computers reset themselves to the most recent programming prior to disconnect.

    I hope your insurance covers "Acts of god". I know somone who had an accident because a bee stung her while she was driving.... it was covered under the "Acts of god" clause. I know somone else who hit a moose on a foggy night while traveling 65MPG on the highway.... this was also coverd under the same insurance clause.

    Hi, I have a 2004 VW Jetta Wagon 1.8T and I've been using regular gas. I did not have any problems by using regular gas. What they told me is that while you stay with one type of gas you are fine. And be sure you get it from a "reliable" gas station.

    I had the exact same problem with my 2004 Jetta 2.0 automatic transmission. I Had 27000 miles on the car. I took it to Appleway Volkswagen in Spokane, WA and they replaced it with a new one.     The watercooled EGR leaking internally is a KNOWN issue for some 2003-2004 TDIs. Using the incorrect antifreeze is not known to cause the EGR to leak.... but can plug up the cooling system and destroy the engine.     I have the NON pumpe-duse TDI engine. (pre 2004) I regulary get over 55 MPG on highway trips. (I log every drop of fuel I put in the tank to calculate MPG so I KNOW this is accurate) But I degress...this forum is talking about the 2006 VW Jetta. The 2006 TDI engine has the pumpe-duse engine (cam-powered injection pump for each individual cylinder.)
