2002 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan GLS 1.8T 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

Love the car, have had a few minor glitches. Both front power windows have broken off of their tracks requiring trips to the service department with less than 9000 miles on the car, both repaired under warranty at no cost, and I was told this is a problem with pre-2003 Jettas. Plastic trim around center vents has bubbled and cracked at about 8000 miles, as has the plastic on the parking brake handle, latch in armrest storage has broken, as has a passenger side floormat anchor--have yet to address these issues with service department to see warranty applicability, saving these issues for the 10,000 mile service coming up soon.

Favorite Features

1.8T engine is a gem. Handling is awesome, love the 17" factory wheels, sunroof, and Monsoon Stereo. Everyone loves gauge illumination.

Suggested Improvements

Was told problem with windows is fixed for 2003. Something needs to be done about plastic trim around center vents and parking brake handle.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan GL 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl 5M)

Review

The car rides low, and the bumper pulled off twice after barely scraping against a barrier. Service man stated, "Jetta owners learn real quick to stay away from curbs." The car also required extensive work after I hit a pothole. Don't EVER hit the curb if parallel parking. My car needed a new rim and an alignment, which is more expensive than most and has to be done at the dealership. The windshield's position allows for rocks to repeatedly hit it. I could no longer afford monthly payments and repair costs, and thus did not mind losing $2,000 when I traded it in for a Toyota.

Favorite Features

I really enjoyed the layout and look of the dash, and received many compliments about it.

Suggested Improvements

Sturdy build! Car should ride higher - it's hard to leave a driveway without scraping the bottom, if there is any incline. Bumpers should be made to bump. A new position for the windshield, so it doesn't receive constant knicks from rocks flying up from other cars.

Review

The 2002 Jeta1.8T is an extremely quick car. I love the Jetta's passing power. ruising on the highway I can switch my Automatic Tiptronic over to manual and downshift to 4th gear and fly around just about anyone. The styling of the exterior makes it one of the hottest looking cars out there, which might explain why there are so many of them on the roads!

Favorite Features

The base stereo is tight with a lot of bass, and extra speakers that aen't optional anymore. The Tiptronic Auto Transmission is what makes this a fun car.

Suggested Improvements

Rear Leg Room! If you are carting around anyone over the age of 10 don't use this car! ALso the air conditioning vents point too far up and all the air passes over the drivers head, oh and who designed the cup holders that cover the stereo!

Review

Firstly, the handling on this car is amazing. It is very agile and responsive. Secondly, the powerplant on this car is amazing. There is plenty of passing power and enough acceleration to smoke most cars out there. The turbo spool on this car is minimal, but exists. Thirdly, the interior is sexy. The quality of materials is most appealing. American car companies: take a note from VW!! Basically, the Jetta is a budget luxury sport sedan. It's trimmed like a luxury car, its materials are the quality of a luxury car, its body is solid like a luxury car, its Monsoon sound system rocks like a luxury car.

Favorite Features

Came with VERY Expensive Michelin Branded tires. They give the car a very nice ride. I love the interior. VW Doesn't nickel and dime you for features--95% of what you would want is included in the base model. Two words: Turbo Engine! VW is an average man's BMW. Seriously...

Suggested Improvements

The Jetta is a much better car than any Honda, Chevy or Ford. Quality is 200% better than any of the American/Japanese models. but if you really want to know: Pesky cup holder, but I get in a car to drive, not to drink. Rear leg room--I don't ride back there so I don't care ;)

Review

So-so vehicle. Turbo lag aggravating. Engine maintenance light's been on 2 times in 7000 miles. Reason unknown. I would not recommend the optional sport suspension package. The Michelin 225x45/R17 Pilot HXMXM4 tires are impossible to obtain locally (had a flat - after 9 days of trying to obtain tire, I restorted to another tire type). Dealer's sales mgr no help.

Favorite Features

It starts!

Suggested Improvements

Replace Monsoon sound system (or the speakers) with something that sounds decent.
