Best case - you still have the timing off by a tooth. (so some other minor item) Worst case - Piston hit valve and physical engine damage occoured.
I have a 1995 volkswagon Jetta GL III that i recently had to change the timing belt, because of the extra marks on the pulley i put it 180 out and when i went to start it there was a loud backfire and this plastic thing on the top of the motor towards the back exploded. After that i bought a new plastic thing and did the timing right the car ... Read More
Intermittent fuel realy? Intermittent ignition switch? Wire lose to fuel pump? Wiring at fuel pump corroded or frayed internally?
I have a 1995 volkswagen jetta, that starts when it wants to. I have narrowed the problem down to the fuel pump isn't getting power, can someone tell me what controlls the power for the fuel pump/where should i look next. ( not a ground issue already checked that)
Is the car a standard or an automatic? An auto would have tranny fluid but a standard would use regular gear oil which can look like motor oil, but at the same time you wouldn't have a dipstick under the hood for the transmission if it was a standard, the dipstick would be for the motor oil.
Congrats with the Jetta!! My jetta has been put on hold probably until October 2008. Hopefully by that time I can try the new TDI if VW stops pushing the date back... Luckily, my accord has been Great until now. If i could get any jetta, It'd be the 05-07 in Northsea green or new in Salsa Red w/beige or that Dark blue color that had a name change. I was ... i checked the dip stick on my 1995 vw jetta and it looks like pure oil in the transmission,Ive never seen a trany that uses oil, just transmission fluid, did someone screw up or does the transmission on a 95 jetta take oil in the trany?also it doesn't say on the stick whether i should check the level with it running in park or neutral,,anybody got the answer for me,the tranny works fine ... Im looking at good reliable cars for a first car and stumbled upon the 1994-1998 jetta and ive done some research onit and im comparing it to a few oother cars. so is this pricy to maintain or is it just another
after a lot of deliberation, we decided to get rid of my wife's 1995 MB C220 and get a new 2008 Jetta SE. So far, wonderful little car! Although she was upside down, we got good trade money, kicked in a little cash, got her payment just about the same. This is our first VW, and hope to enjoy it during this lease.
Careful, there...she did not say what year her car is. I don't know when VW started using G12, but my kid's '97 was orginally G11 (not G12). According to the Bentley Manual (covering 1993-1999 Golf/Jetta and 1995-2002 Cabriolets) right in front of me, VWs from early 1997 production (and on) SHOULD be used on all water-cooled VWs. So unless she has a VW made before 1997, any antifreeze that is used ... Read More
I am looking into buying a 1995 VW jetta 2.0 with 165000 miles on it. How many miles are these cars good for? Are the reliable cars? Any info. Thanks
I bought vw jetta III petrol 2.0l auto transmission 1995 model about 22 months ago. My problems are:1)I need owner's service manual. 2)Speedometer is not working. 3)I want to know more about the car.
I have not owned an Accord (had a 1995 Civic) so I do not know much about their strong points. I have owned 2 Jettas. The most recent was a 2001 TDI. I was in an accident with a tractor trailer 2 days ago. I was clipped in the driver's side rear quarter panel, then was pushed by the truck while perpendicular to the front of the truck and then spun ... Read More
Thank you. I will look into those suggestions. I am so glad I found this forum thing. Everytime I tell a mechanic that my car is slow, they look at me like I want it to run like a porche. My first car was a 1995 Ford Taurus and it had more pick-up and acceleration than my jetta does now. I may be a girl/car-idiot, but after driving the same car ... Read More
I drove a 1995 Golf rated 24/31 - a car that consistantly delivered 35mpg highway, and 25 city (consistantly over 100K miles that I owned it.) Is the mid-20s/low 30s MPG range that I've read here common for a 2.5/5 spd combo? I think I've talked myself into another VW, looking at Jetta or Rabbit. Is anyone seeing better than 25/31??
I drove a TDI and really liked it. I almost bought a Golf TDI in 2003, but the dealer added $300 and I walked. Also, read about the hoorible reliability and delarer service and was extremely glad I didn't buy. Since then I have toyed back and forth between high miles per gallon cars and fun cars. I have analyzed and reanalyzed the cost savings of high mileage cars and it ... Read More
Agree...and my experiece with clutches has been they have all lasted the life of the vehicle so far. None were VW but... 1989 Plymouth Voyager bought new, donated with over 120,000 miles and original clutch still working. 1986 Plymouth Horizon bought new, donated with over 120,000 miles and original clutch still working. 1995 Ford Contour bought with 70,000+ miles, now has over 130,000 and still running with, I assume, the original ... A friend of mine has generously donated a 1995 Jetta 3 to me but it seems it has a few problems. None of the dash works (speedo and tach included) and the auto headlight sensor doesn't work either. I'm working on a very tight budget and I've never owned a Volkswagen so I was hoping for a little advice as far as what it could be. Someone told me it may ... Read More
I have a 1995 VW Jetta that the speedometer works intermittently does anyone know of any problems with this yr make and model. I was told there may be an electrical problem.
Although I'm a normally intelligent person, I get thoroughly stupid when I sit down with a salesman. Remember that girl in school who did fine in all her classes, but flunked Finance? Yes, that was me. Someone please help!! My daughter is in college, 5 states away, with 7 YEARS of grad school before getting a real job - she currently has 3 part time jobs. I'm going to co-sign a ... Read More
Great stuff. Right now my daily driver is a 1995 Ford Taurus SHO. Believe it or not, the thing still can outpace most cars on the road. Of course, the engine and tranny are not Ford but Yamaha. Thing is, the SHO drinks gas pretty heavily. I do 325 clicks on 55 liters. I can hear the TDI people laughing at me as their cars could probably do close to triple ... Read More
i have a 1997 jetta and i guess i must be one of the lucky ones. it has 61,000 miles on it and i've not had any serious trouble with it. i know several others with jettas from around 95-98 and none have the kind of reliability issues people speak of on this forum. i know it's merely anecdotal but i have a good friend with a 1995 mexican made jetta ... building block in the company's positive direction since '94. That direction, logically, is to take on BMW, Mercedes, Lexas, et al. And why not??!! The W8 can be looked at as a bargain as an AWD, 8cyl., euro/luxo sedan under 40k. By offering the Jetta/Golf in the same showroom for under 20k is something BMW cannot dream of. Also, at least here in the Seattle area, $4k 1996 Jetta's are scarce. ... Read More
I went to a VW dealer yesterday, interested in a 1.8T Jetta. The sticker on this car stated $22625, with all the bells an whistles I desired (leather, sunroof, etc.). We got to the bargaining table, and the salesman threw an additional $1995 into the mix, by stating that this was " market adjustment". I went to the VW web site, and it says I can buy this car for $22625. ... Read More
I keep reading all these comments from new Jetta VW owners who "love" their cars -- it sounds so familiar. I was saying the same things five years ago . . . I have a 1995 Jetta GLS. It has been NOTHING but headache and expense for the past two or three years. Everything possible has broken (I have only a mere 42,000 miles on it) from my sunroof to my ... Read More
