Purchased New in '92 car still Runs and Looks the same as when I bought it. No failings with Interior design but Closing & Locking mechanisms on rear doors are problematic and leave something to be desired. Have had no Engine or Tranny problems (automatic) and no real costs of maintenance other than routine tune ups & oil changes. Trunk is enormous for small sized car which is now 16 yrs old w/96k. This garage kept solid little car is great fun to drive & just can't give it up!

This is the second 92 Eco Diesel I have owned. This one has only 120,000 Klms (75,000 miles) on it and is in new condition. This 92 is naturally aspirated, otherwise no turbo, so you must adapt your driving to the power available. This car is very dependable and great fun to drive, with the good old firm VW feeling. Not a comfortable car, from a cushiony seat point of view, but overall a joy to drive and own.It loves to cruise all day.

I posted a reveiw a few weeks ago about
my '92 Jetta GL, I said it got factory
stats with a blown head gasket, I had a
compressions test done and it gets
awsome compression, Which in turns
means no blown head gasket. The things
it was going looked like one, but after
some time of trouble shooting, I
relized that an O-Ring on the coolent
Resivor had moved. Thus the pressure
wasnt regulating, no was allowed to
build up proberly. So if you think you
have a blow head gasket check the o-
ring on your resivor cap, and get a
compression test just to be safe.

this is a fairly raliable car. it is
fun to drive although not very
comfortable. the engine runs great,
and it feels strong. i had repeated
problems with the heating and the
cooling system. i had to change many
things. like the transmission, the
suspensions and so on, but hey, this
is a 12 yro car...

Jetta will run forever never had
anything really wrong with it A few
typical things i.e. alternator but
nothing like engine/transmission
problems of any kind. Got
factory stats w/ blown head gasket
Not easy to find a good mechanic when
rarely needed had it for 3yrs 1st time
its had to go to the shop Im the 2nd
owner & this is the 1st time other than
oil changes its had to be in the shop
w/180k Not sure if thats a record
Interior/ body are good quality build.
Cant beat never less than 30mpg &
factory stats @ 12yrs quite an
achievement, built in Mex but 99% of
parts are from Germany Never, left
stranded, ever; not expected to happen
The Jetta is actually the sixth VW I have owned, preceded by a 1978 Rabbit, a 1981 Jetta, a 1984 Jetta, and a 1992 Passat. Only the Passat posed any problems at all; when it was just less than five y...
Today, I own a 1997 Jetta (185,000 miles) that doesn't burn a drop of oil and a 2003 Wolfsburg Jetta (75,000 miles) that has been relatively trouble free. I keep up the maintenance on these cars on a...
