  • My experience with VW

Written by: nightmancometh on Apr 1, 2010 1:35:56 PM

I know it was a while ago, but, I had a 1991 Jetta which was plagued with problems. All of my friends owned Honda's and did not have any problems. Therefore I purchased a Honda Accord in 1996 and had only 2 minor repairs on it after 250,000 miles. I still have the car and it runs like a dream. I'm guessing I have about 4 more years left on it. ... Read More

Agreed that the higher density of diesel fuel means that a given volume size of onboard tank carries a larger weight of diesel fuel, but is this really a big benefit? My Volvo V70 gasoline 168hp 2.4L with 5-spd auto has a range of over 500 hwy miles with its 18 gal tank, and my wife's XC90 3.2L petrol 6A will go over 500 hwy mi on its 21 gal tank. ... Read More

  • Continuation to 4162: (The REAL Truth)

Con't: If the dealer can make up their own prices, create their own guidelines, then how can there ever be a standard? There isn't any anymore. This, again, is why we are all being told different things to similar problems. Please, if you are a VW technician, no offense, but this is what VW Corporation and the VW service dealers in the MD, DC, and VA are telling me -- (hearing ... Read More

(justin) I agree with you. I know that the awd Jetta would sell like hotcakes here in Vermont. But VW/Audi knows that the Audi sales would be where most of the customers would come from. It would be stupid of them to offer the only competition to the Audi quattro and loose money. I settled for the next best thing... my 1991 AWD Honda Cvic was traded for a 2003 Jetta ... Read More

With all due respect... in the world of automobiles QUICKER is the term used for the Lotus. It is neither just semantics nor proper english... When it comes to QUICK -vs- FAST, the dragstrip is where this stuff is decided. There is such a thing as a vehicle doing the 1/4 mile with a FASTER speed but a SLOWER time than another vehicle.... it is NOT the QUICKEST car! (but is ... Read More

  • My envious co-worker...

I had mentioned him before, the one with the 1991 Honda Civic LX. He said he and his gf are in the market for a new car, but they want an SUV because they need the cargo room. He has gone absolutely crazy over my car in the past 2 weeks. I mean compliments just flood from him when he rides in it. From the comfort, to the power, even to ... Read More

Ah, yes the new civic and impreza both get high crash scores. Not sure about the side impact rating on them though. I know from experience the golf/jetta holds up splendidly. As for leases...I beat the hell out of my car. Why lie? I do. I shift at 5k RPM all the time, I enter each corner as if I'm chased and treat every driving situation as an excuse to have ... • Will this Jetta run?

    Written by: manningd1 on Jun 20, 2001 9:51:19 PM

In April of 2000 when I had my near fate car accident, I was worried that I wouldn't find a car like my 1991 Honda civic hatch SI which I maintained never brought back to the dealer for anything but a leak in the roof. I had 163 thousand miles, same started and fuel pump! I did my research on Volkswagen Jetta's and was very impressed. My wife and I purchased ... Read More

Sorry to report, newcar31, but my Jetta has been flawless since the day I bought it. Oh...It's a 2.0 too. No oil loss either. I also drove a 1.8T and was not that impressed with it, but it's definitely a nice little engine. Just not the pocket-rocket that some claim it to be. Yes, it's faster than the 2.0, but not THAT much faster. Anyway, the biggest complaints I have seen ... Read More

Ahh yeah. It was tough to pry our 1991 Accord from my wife's hands. Even tougher to keep her from walking across the street (from VW) and picking out her 2001 EX. She refused to test drive the Jetta. Now, I barely get a chance to drive it. ;-) There's no doubt the Accord is a great, reliable car. There's no argument there. They are not the super-car they were 10 ... Read More

I didn't want to make fun of anyone's funky Cavalier. ;-) The great point you make there lexzoom, is that if someone does get a lemon then of course they will bad mouth that manufacturer. I would! I had a 1981 VW Rabbit that I hated!! I swore off VW's for life! But, it really wasn't the car I hated, it was the service people in the town I was living ... Read More
