Bought new in 2011.
Really liked the look of the car and the performance of the car.
Gas mileage was superb.
Was a good car until about 25,000 miles then problems started happening. The AC compressor got out.
The radio had to be replaced 4 times.
There was also a short in the ignition system.
Thankfully they were all covered under the warranty, but it was a pain to have to take it in to the dealership.
Also the DSG transmission is the worst.

I work for a company with 24 vehicles of this Jetta model. We drive about 100 miles a day and most of the cars are now close to 100k miles. Two cars so far has been taken out of service due to costly repairs. I drove most of the cars and they all had the diesel injector problem before 35k miles which was covered by warranty ($9k estimate repair and a week at the shop) BUT a lot more problems will occur afterward including turbo replacement. I had to change the whole A/C kit twice (at 50k and 90k) the cost to repair is over $2k. The dealership was a great help but I would suggest to stay away. Oh, and you will change the front tires many times due to the vain spinning at take off

I have 66,220 miles on my car and the fuel pump went out.
The vehicle started loosing power and when we came to a stop it died and wouldn't start again.
The warranty runs out at 30k and if they would have worked with me it was going to cost $2100.
The dealership told me that pieces of metal were seen and would need to do a full system flush also.

We've had our wagon for 1.5 years, and have logged 47K miles, in harsh Maine environments of rough gravel roads, very rough paved roads, salty winter roads, ice, mud, and one cross country and back trip.
Excellent in snow, haven't crashed it yet.
I've driven it through 12" of snow, plowing a path.
The heavy diesel right over the wheels makes it better than a 4x4 on ice, with proper tires.
Loaded w/family & gear, at 80, mileage is 38.
70 it's 46.
65 it's 49.
55 it's 51.
Everyone likes to drive, or ride in this car.
Nothing on the market compares.
Buy one.

The MPG really drops if driving above 75mph.
40K service includes DSG transmission fluid drain, and it costs $$$$.
Back seat tight for 3 adults. Impossible for 2 Adults+baby seat.

Really like this car. 43,000 miles in ten months. I love this car but I do admit the fuel pump problem scares me, VW needs to put its buyers at ease by covering this issue. Knock on wood this car has been great. I averahe 44 mpg. 48 on highway.

We've just put over 10K on our 2011 diesel wagon and it has been awesome!
We routinely average 40+ on the highway and even through mountains with the car loaded with 2 adults a dog and all the accompanying crap!
The seats are extremely comfortable and all the controls are easily accessible and fuctional.
The only grib I have is that the car gets door dings and scratches SO easily!
I've had cars in the past that have been hit with a shopping cart and nothing...maybe a tiny scratch.
This car, you have a dent AND a scratch.
Just be careful...that's all I'm sayin'!
Will see how it handles in the mountain snow next weekend and we are heading to Mt. Bachelor in Oregon!

I'm a car nut and I proclaim this THE PERFECT CAR!!
The TDI motor #1 is why I love this car.
I can drive 600 miles on a single tank, consistent 35-43 MPG at normal speeds.
I don't baby my car, I like to have fun while I drive and yet it still gets 35+ mpg.
On a weekend road trip it got 43mpg at 80mph.
#2 is the Wagon and roof rack.
A recent road trip to Steamboat Springs my wife and I had 2 road bikes inside and 2 mtn bikes on the rack plus gear.
So flexible!!
#3 This car is proof that selling my truck that was costing $300+/month gas was the right decision. I enjoy driving it more, it cut my gas usage by 1/3, and it's plenty flexible to transport cargo and toys.

I was looking for a sporty, roomy vehicle that I could easily haul my dog in. The sportwagen has a large cargo area, and the heigth is easy to negotiate for our aging pup.
While shopping around, I convinced myself I had to have a diesel for the torque and the mileage.
Performance is good, not great.
DSG likes to keep the revs low, so you need some planning and patience for the wave to arrive. Sometimes the wave is there, sometimes you wait.
Gas Mileage.
Averaging 38mpg over 9K miles.
It takes a good 10 miles to get the mileage reading into the 30's, so not sure how it would do if you only take short trips. Probably not good.

Purchased the car in April and have just over 14,000 miles on it.
Always averaging 42 mpg.
Love everything about the car.
If I have an issue it would be somewhat jerky in town driving like it is searching for the right gear.
Mine is an automatic so I can always downshift it to increase the RPMs.
Snow season will soon be coming and I hope winter traction is good.
