2003 Volkswagen GTI VR6 2dr Hatchback (2.8L 6cyl 6M)

Review

This is my 4th VW (92 Corrado, 2 Jettas and my GTI). Only problem I've had was the coil Packs, no surprise. Previous owner only replaced 3 of the 6. Car has power whenever you need it. My Corrado (with a couple of mods) could do 140mph and keep pulling.

Best Features

All the air bags, traction control and 17s. 6spd tranny is cool as well.

Worst Features

Cup holder is really not that functional. Better tires and suspension.

2003 Volkswagen GTI 1.8T 2dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

Bought my 03 silver 1.8T GTI for $14000 with just 4000 mi on it. This was a VW Corporate car.I've had no problems at all, recently rolling over 10000 miles. I get 32 mpg and pass all highway traffic with ease; sometimes three cars at a time. Never lacks passing power even at 85 mph! Understated German styling offers a grown-up look for those who want fun, but would be embarassed to drive a cartoonish sport coupe like the Mini,Celica or Eclipse.

Best Features

Blast by highway traffic with no downshift. Interior and gauges are classy and easy to use. Blue dash at night is very cool. One-touch electric windows and the sunroof are a joy. Heated seats. Hatchback cargo room. Awesome brakes. Tight handling. 180 hp is plenty. Chip for more.

Worst Features

First gear is all-or-nothing. Either crawl away from the stoplight and get waxed by mini vans, or stomp the pedal, spin up the turbo and burn the tires as you leave everyone in the dust wondering what kind of crack you are smoking. A few rattles. How about an MP3 jack and xtra aux pwr jack?

2003 Volkswagen GTI 20th Anniversary Edition 2dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 6M)

Review

This car is style, fun, power, practicality all in one. Very happy with the purchase, it is a head above the standard GTI. Great engine - very tuner friendly. Love the torque. You get all sorts of aftermarket pieces stock on this car. A great value.

Best Features

Recaro seats, torque, 6 speed

Worst Features

needs to be just a hair lower maybe

2003 Volkswagen GTI VR6 2dr Hatchback (2.8L 6cyl 6M)

Review

I owned my '03 VR6 GTI for just over 2 years, putting around 32K miles on it. Overall it's a fun car to drive, but I had quite a few quality issues, especially with the paint (pearl indigo blue). The VR6 has great low-end torque, but it is very heavy which is really noticeable when cornering at high speeds. The car handles fantastic at high speed on the highway, with very little cabin noise even at 85+ MPH. The Monsoon stereo system is fantastic, the heated seats are great because you can adjust the heating level, and the cruise control is much more user friendly than on other cars I have driven. Overall, it's a fun, versatile car that is a good deal for the price.

Best Features

- VR6 - Very fast! - Interior design - The black leather looks great with the blue and red console lighting. Seats are comfortable and heated leather is very well done. - Visibility is very good in this car. - Storage is great, I moved my apartment in this car. - 17 inch wheels are a good feature.

Worst Features

- Cup holder over CD player is awful. - VR6 although powerful is too heavy for this car. - Paint job is sub-par. Paint scratches very easily and started to delaminate after 1 1/2 years. To their credit, VW agreed to repaint the car at no charge. - Quality in general not that great. Rattling, etc.

2003 Volkswagen GTI 1.8T 2dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

If you want Japanese-style sport & affordability with upscale German character, go with VW GTI. Having owned Mazda/Nissan/Honda as well as Audi/BMW, I can say that this little hot hatch combines the best qualities of all. Youthful, nimble performance combined with mature comfort, features, and ride quality. And it is the real deal, standing out from all the kiddie-cars out there. I considered Civic, RSX, Mini, Tiburon, etc., but they seemed too generic or else "flavor of the month" in nature. So why not go with the original pocket rocket that showed the others how it's done?

Best Features

smooth turbo motor, quality interior finish and materials, German character, practical "boxy" hatchback layout, IP lighting, sporty yet fully adjustable leather seats, good handling yet supple ride.

Worst Features

Even the "improved" console cupholders could be better. And what, a "sport" model without foglights? Plus a little less body roll please, but without sacrificing the nice ride.
