What's New for 2015

The 2015 Volkswagen Golf is fully redesigned.

Introduction

The 2015 Volkswagen Golf might look familiar, but under that subtly evolved styling lies a ground-up redesign on an all-new platform. The seventh-generation Golf uses a new front-wheel-drive architecture that will underpin several future VW models. The new platform is wider, with a wheelbase 2 inches longer than the current Golf.

A new sloping hood design, sharp side character line and lower stance give the 2015 Golf a slightly shorter, more dynamic look.

Under that revised hood is a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine generating 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The Golf TDI model returns with a turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel engine good for 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Both engines offer a choice of a six-speed manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The new platform allows the 2015 VW Golf to offer more room inside. The interior is 0.6 inch longer, most of it accommodating the legs of rear seat passengers. There's more room for arms and elbows as well, and VW says cargo capacity is up 8 percent. Chrome, aluminum and piano-black trim pieces blend with additional soft-touch surfaces, lending the Golf a traditional premium feel.

The 2015 Volkswagen Golf goes on sale early next year. Pricing hasn't been announced, but expect the new Golf to list for close to its current base price of around $18,000. Check back for a full review of the 2015 Golf, including specs, driving impressions and buying advice as it becomes available.
