I test drove the honda civic, mazda 6,
and a couple of other predomanatly
asian builtcars, and nothing against
those companys but the vw blows all of
them out of the water, can't compare
that german engineering.
my favorite features of this car is
the whole interior, the fun
drive.Another favorite feature about
this car are the endless possibilities
of enhancing the performance and
the only suggeested improvment i can
think of is that all models should
come standerd w/ arm rests
he Brazilian Golf seems a little more
fragile than it's German bretheren.
Sure the plastics are still top notch,
the interior well designed and the shut
line laser tight but there are hust a
few too many problems.
Windshield wipers that snapped in the
first half mile, a dashboard that
worked loose by 2000 miles, a passenger
airbag that failed and had to be
replaced at 5,000 and some very fragile
wheel hubs and you see why my
confidence has been a little shaken.
Blue lighting at night... eats up
highway miles with ease... stereo
better than it has a right to be
Build quality closer to German
assembled cars, dealer servicing at
Compared to all other small cars, the
Golf wins as the best quality and best
value. No car at $16K to $19K is
perfect, but the Golf is the closest.
At 3000 lbs., with 8 airbags, standard
4-wheel anti-lock disks, and available
ESP, it is the safest. It is also fun
to drive, with solid handling and a
remarkably compliant ride for small a
car. High resale value makes VWs the
only econoboxes that are worth leasing.
Fun to drive, safety features, easy-
shifting 5-speed, ride, handling, noise
isolation, clever us of interior space.
Little more power in the 2.0L engine,
better cup holders, an inch or two more
in the back seat. (Much of the
competition is better in rear seat
I test drove the Matrix, Protege and
Protege5 and never really considered
VW as a possibility. I was always more
of the Japanese type. However, the
second I pulled that thing out of the
lot my world changed. It's got quite
the pick up for 115hp and 120 torque.
But I have to agree that the
cupholders do block the stereo
controls, but I do like how they are
Smooth transmission, great brakes,
amazing standard saftey features.
Shorter throw on gearbox, firmer
clutch, cupholders that might not
interfere with stereo controls.
