You must not be reading the same Consumer Reports I am. Consumer Reports only has reliability ratings for one year of the Golf diesel--2002--which rates it as average (open circle, no red) overall, same for engine major, solid black (much worse than average) for engine minor, solid red (much better than average) for engine cooling. Okay so i have a 2002 volkswagen golf 2.0L it has 126,000 miles on it and today the blinker decided to start acting weird. so here is the issue i turn the blinker on to turn and when i turn and it does the automatic shut off (or even if i turn it off) it will keep making the noise but faster, mind you the blinker is off!! what is going on? i just got the thing like six months ago ... I own a 2002 vw golf. I recently went to get in to it and the door wouldn't unlock with the remote, so I opened it with the key. No, not really. The early New Beetles and Jettas built in Mexico had some problems, but by 2002 and 2003 -- when it was possible to directly compare Mexican Jetta sedans versus German Jetta wagons -- there was really no difference in build quality. I think when the VW plant in Puebla first started up, there were some problems. But at least since 2001 or 2002 that plant has been assembling cars with very few glitches... or at least no more than the Jetta wagons that all came from Germany. I own a 2002 VW GOLF GTI 1.8T and have had an annoying problem where my engine oil pressure light keeps on going off and ive taken it to the mechanic atleast 5 times and ive had my oil pump fixed and the engine pressure indicatior. I also have a 2002 VW golf and the EPC light comes on for me also, but when it does I am not able to move the gear shift. It rights itself but in its own sweet time.... I am taking it to my local repair shop Monday, but they are concerned they may need to refer me to a VW dealer as they do not have the software to diagnose the problem. Read More...
