Fun, but not worth the aggravation

Review

I had a 2002 golf for 2 years, bought it with 19K on it. The car was fun to drive and I like the interior design. I bought it in FL and took it to TX with me. When all the systems were running (AC, high beams, CD player) and you went to put down the power windows, the radio would shut off. Also, the ABS brake light would randomly come on while I was driving. Took to a local dealer in TX because it was still under warranty. The dealership manager told me I was making up the problem (so I could drive 80 miles every week to have it fixed). It was a pain in the rear. There are fun cars out there with fewer problems - never again.

Favorite Features

Dash lights, fun at fast speeds, handling.

Suggested Improvements

See above - also I broke the center storage cover by accidently leaning the wrong way. Kind of flimsy.

Great car!

Review

The only negative of this car is that the cup holder is located over the radio! This car exceeded every other expectation. Great gas mileage, very reliable. Peppier than expected for a diesel. Got 120,000 out of the first set of brakes.

Favorite Features

Fun car to drive, very tight. The seat are designed to hug the body. Blue dashboard.

Suggested Improvements

Again, placement of cup holders and more cup holders.

The car is OK to drive, but it needs more power. The inside lights are nice and the comfort of the ride is not to bad.

2002 Gold TDI

Review

This is a fun to drive, very economical and reliable car. Its hatchback style converts the trunk into a huge cargo area relative to the size of the vehicle.

Favorite Features

The diesel engine has great torque when needed for passing or on steep hills.

Suggested Improvements

The front seats could be more comfortable on long trips, but are OK for around town or commuting.

My First New Car Treated Me Well

Review

My Golf was perfect until after I had put 60,000 miles on it, then things started to fall apart. I had some mechanical trouble that ended up being quite costly. Other than that, I loved the car. It was fun and sporty.

Favorite Features

It is very quick and fun to drive. I especially loved the blue interior lights and premium stereo.

Suggested Improvements

The cup holders cover the front of the stereo controls, which is annoying when trying to change CDs, track, or volume.

Love my TDI

Review

I've owned a VW Golf GLS TDI for four years and I have to say that it just may turn out to be the best car I ever owned. I'll let you know when it hits the 1/2 million mile mark, that's when I will be 100% sure. It has had no problems at all. It's quick, fun to drive, handles well, and gets great gas mileage, 50+ MPG! I first saw one in Ireland in 2002 while visiting. I was glad t hat I had this car when gas hit $3,00+ per gallon. I live in the northeast and have not had any cold weather problems, and you don't plug them in. They have a glow plug system that works. The car has no smoke and very little engine cabin noise. Buy one!

Everything is perfect.

Suggested Improvements

The only improvement I would make is moving the dual cup holder from in front of the stereo to individual door mounted holders on each side.

Golf Diesel

Review

This is a really fun car to drive. It gets great fuel economy and it extremely reliable. This car now has over 50,000 miles with no problems whatsoever. The paint finish and interior stll look like almost new.

Favorite Features

The cargo room can be expanded to take on bulky items due to hatchback and lold-down rear seats. The diesel engine offers great torque and fuel economy.

Suggested Improvements

VW should offer a sports suspension as an option.

Review

I've owned this car for 4 years and I think it just may be the best car I've ever owned. It gets great gas milage, 40/51. It has had no maintenance issues. I just change the oil every 5,000 miles. It's comfortable, responsive, and fun to drive. When this one wears out at 500,000 miles, or maybe a million miles I'll gladly sell it and buy another. I live in upstate NY and winter weather worries with a diesel have never been an issue for me.

This car helped save my son!

I just wanted to let everyone know that this little car saved my son's life! He was doing about 45 mph and ran a stop sign late at night due to fog, he went airborn into a field where he it a 8" round tree. The air bags deployed. The only injury he got was a scrape on is face from the airbag and a passenger had a sore shoulder. The car held up well even though it was totaled...It really didn't look that bad, I expected worse! Thank you Volkswagen for making such a nice, solid car....

Great Golf TDI

Review

We tested numerous cars when deciding to purchase my wife's 2001 Volkswagen Golf TDI. After driving hers several times I knew I wanted one just like it. I drive 38 miles to work each day and the car handles great, is quiet, has lots of pep, and I get around around 49 MPG if I keep my foot out of it. I ordered the Monsoon radio package and I have had problems with reception but the sound is spot on. I've been waiting for the 06 Golf TDI but it now looks like June of 06 before we get the new body style. You can see new body style Golfs by Googleing New Golf. Try not to drool on yourself. I have seen one here that was brought back to the states by a guy in the Air Force. Unlike 06 Jetta, the new Golf looks excellent!

Favorite Features

I love the pick up, it has lots of torque. This car is a blast to drive. It is quiet. The sound system rocks.

Suggested Improvements

Offer leather, high power headlights, fog lights, a two part visor, and more colors than the standard Golf / Jetta offers.
