Hi all hope someone can help me with this one. I have a 1995 mrk3 golf estate. Driving home one night my oil light starts to flash and i loose rev counter and speedo on my dash , then suddenly it all goes back to normal. Couple of days later the problem is back and it eventually drained the battery. Thought it was a faulty dash so i managed to get ... Read More
You are talking about a point-in-time view Only recently have Toyota's problems become a media issue, however, this point-in-time view is the result of 10 to 15 years of Toyota problems. This decline in Toyota quality has been ongoing since at least 2000, if not longer. Toyota knew about the problems and would not take action. Toyota problems are systemic, there is no reasonable expectation that Prius will be excluded. When ... Read More

As a previous owner of a total of three Volkswagens, the latest a 1995 Golf, I am considering taking the plunge again on a TDI Golf. Some comments (incl. Consumer Reports) suggest reliability is a problem on the latest version cars. What is your experience?

Hello, My name's Mark. I used to own a '79 Plymouth Champ w/ 1.6 L and 8 on the floor. Yeah, you know one of those oddities w/ the split rear axle so every gear had an overdrive. Cool concept but not real practical for the lower gears. Anyway, it got too small for our family and I needed cash so this mechanic who had worked on the car once, when ... Read More
I'm looking at a Golf III VW 1995 (76,000 odo) to possibly purchase from a used car lot in Indio, CA, and they have no history on the car. It looks like a VW jetta but as a little sporty station wagon ... In looking it up in the Edmunds.com there is no info on this model!! I really need a reliable dependable car so don't want to purchase a car ... Read More

Unfortunately I don't have enough cash for a new one so I am geting a 1995. Can any one advise me on the GL or CL side of things... as in speed etc..?

1995 was supposedly a bad year for VW reliability (although i know someone with a 1995 jetta with close to 100,000 miles who has had zero problems with it). vw maintanence is costly, and you need to find a good mechanic who knows the ins and outs of volkswagens. i've found a shop locally that specializes in water cooled vws who is extremely honest and reasonable. the golf is a heckuva ... I would suggest either a Honda Civic Hatchback or a VW Golf. If you want a good, reliable car that's not gonna break any speed records, than go with a Civic Hatch. If you want a car that has great styling and some good power, than a Golf would be a good choice. It's always better to buy used. Try a 1992-1995 Civic Hatch, preferably an Si version. Those things are ... Read More
