  • Help!!! My van is sick!

Written by: peaceluvpoptop on Jul 6, 2010 5:31:53 PM

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I recently put a new alternator in my 2002 VW Eurovan MV, and $1000 dollars later it still needs more work! My van has passenger type tires on it (98 load) and they told me it needs 102 truck load tires but the ride is not as smooth. Well now they are telling me that my left and right ... Read More

I have a 2002 EuroVan camper with the left rear tail light out. The VW dealer has no idea how to change due to the camper cabinets etc. being in the way. Any simple solution to this problem?

My 2002 had a slow shift problem at 35k. VW replaced it after trying everything else first. It was a 5k job but done under warranty. It went out again at 105k and this time there was only an aftermarket warranty that had a lifetime limit almost met. VW said they don't repair, only replace for 6k. AAMCO did a rebuild for 4300 but I think they broke the clock spring ... Read More

I'm the owner of a 2002 Weekender with 180'000km on it. I truly understand your worries. It seams you had a lot of repairs. I had some repairs as well. - Lower Ball Joints left + right -Wheel bearings front left + right -Transmission mount I advise you to do as much as possible yourself, and find a local Mechanic. I mind the VW Dealerships, they're very expensive (110 CAD/hour) and ... Read More

I have a 02 Winne Rialta which uses the 02 Eurovan drivetrain and if you are pressing the button on the shifter when trying to go from D to a lower gear?? don't!! I found that out the hard way coming down the Smoky Mountains! the VW ystem is different from some other types where pressing on the button on the VW will lock you out from downsifting!!

Hello, Thank you very much for your response. I have spoken with the VW dealership as well and they have assured me that the van can handle the load. They did state however that the trailer needs to have brakes - which it does. We tested for a short distance today and all worked fine. Interesting you live near Heidelberg, as I used to work for Heidelberg USA and have visited ... Read More

Sounds like your the man for ideas on the Eurovan...I have a 03 GLS, just changed out my front brake pads and rotors, I bought official VW parts, did the work myself, problem is the idiot light warning me of front brake pads worn did not go out after the change. Just wondering if you had any ideas before I take it back to the dealer to get "robbed"...

I also have a 2002 EV and started out with a small pop-up approx 1800 lbs with no issues in towing or making any type of grade climb. We've upgraded to a 2002 Shamrock 18' Trailer with a dry weight of 2850 lbs. / 3500-3600 lbs fully loaded. VW manual states that it has a towing cap. of 4500 lbs however I would not try it. • 2002 Eurovan fuel problem plus sludge

Our 2002 Eurovan has what appears to be a chronic fuel problem. The check engine light comes on at increasing interals (now about every two months). Most of the time, the dealer finds no code, but sometimes replaces a sensor or some other repair. The car drives at reduced power. They replaced the ignition coils which I had hoped would fix the problem. The latest episode has the engine light plus ... Read More

We are the proud new owners of a CPO 2002 Eurovan Weekender. I absolutely love it. We bought it in Wisconsin and drove it back to Connecticut with an overnight (in the van) at Allegany State Park. Due to the temperature (we had our 3 yr old son with us) we decided to keep the top down for thie night and just sleep on the "bottom bunk". It is surprisingly comfortable. ... Read More

Purchased (new) a 2002 VW Eurovan Weekender (MV) - wish I had gone the $3000 extra and purchased the camper version. Eventhough we are not a "camping family" (three small kids), we probably would be if we had the camper version. Of course, it seems the camper is only for an overnight or two. Love our Eurovan, cannot even touch the cargo space with a Suburban or any other vehicle short ... Read More

Hi Roseroyce, I wish I lived closer - I'd be happy to show you my 2003 EVC [Eurovan Winnebago Camper, essentially identical to 2001 & 2002 models]. I live about 40 miles E of NYC. As you may know, the [2003, etc.] Eurovan Campers came in 3 models - MV, Weekender, & Winnebago. You can run a 'compare' search to get a chart showing the specs of the 3. The Weekender ... Read More

The rear brakes on my 2002 where completely worn out about a year (approx. 18k mi.)after I purchased. I was told that I would need new rotors/discs and brake pads. It not cheap to replace these and am wondering am I going to have to do this every year or more? Several mechanics have told me that they believe that VW under-engineered the brakes and discs for this vehicle. Has anyone ... Read More

I previously posted a message regarding tires on my 2001 Eurovan (not a camper) that wore out after only 17k miles. I called the 800 drive vw number for a recommendation regarding new tires. They informed me that when the 2001's rolled off the line there was a shortage of appropriate tires. Consequently they put a Dunlap performance tire on that was not well-suited to the vehicle (particularly for rain or ... Read More

Final decision in June 2002 but it looks like a go for 2004. I am a little disappointed that it will be a bit expensive like the Eurovan because of the luxury platform. Here is the latest tidbit from Auto Express: "The Microbus will be based on the new VW T5 platform, which will form the underpinnings of a next-generation Transporter van, as well as the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne ... SGALCZYN- You are correct, the Eurovan is ude back late this Spring or early this Summer. It will be just like the model previously sold here except for that it will have the VR6 engine and dual air-bags. In Europe it's called the Caravelle, not the Sharan. The Sharan is a much smaller van shared with Ford and built in Portugal. It is rumored we might get a version of the ... Read More
